INLET BOX 03 GULLY FOB DRAm-PIPES 03- THE LIKE.
Specification of. Letters Patent.
Patented July 28', 1908.
Application flied October 28, 1907. Serial No. 399,619.
-Be it known that I, FELIX N I-EMEIERI, government architect, subject of the German Emperor, residing at 21 Moltkestrasse', Bromberg, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements inInlet-Boxes or Gullies for Drain- Pipes 'or the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descri tion.
This'invention relates to an improve inlet box'for tubular conduits which are employed to form a continuation of open water chanj nels.
It is designed chiefly for use in agricultural improvement works Where in regulatin minor Water channels and in the irrigation and drainage of meado'wland and marshes, and especially in drainage installations, underground pipes are fre uently substituted for open ditches, as this 0 viates obstacles in the cultivation of the soil and involves very little expense for maintenance. Such a pipe channel requires tobe secured with greatj,.care against obstruction by materials carried into the pi e, and the inlet box forming the subject 0 the. present invention is intended to serve this end. finch water inlets may also be employed inth drainage of railway works and'road embankn ients.
, The drawing illustrates the invention in which:
Figure 1 is'a'front elevation with one half of the grating omitted. Fig. 2shows a longitudinal section, Fig, 3 and half horizontal section. I
The inlet box is made of cement concrete with wire insertions. On the front side it is semicircular in plan, in order to insure-over) the lar est possible section a flow of water towards the center of the pipe conduit, from the ditch or reservoir oi which drains into the'co'nduit. At the top the box is partly closed by means of a roof or cover, the opening remaining is intended to letin the 45 water when the water level is very high. To
shows a half plan I prevent weeds and other objects carried away by the water, from entering intothe box the up er orifice is covered with an iron grating c.
lots (1 are arranged in the front face, through which" the Water is intended to enter when at a medium or low level. The lower margin of the slots is situated on a level withthe base of the pipeconduit to be protected by theinlet box, sothat the water can be drained off down to the level of the bottom of the conduit and no loss of head will thus arisethrough the interposition of the box.
a mud trap, so that any sand and mud ma be deposited there. To facilitate the enodical removal of these deposits the grating c on the top of the box can be turned back on hin es f on the upper side of the box. 1111 the bac in to the pipe conduit 6 to be inserted there.
hat 1 Claim and desire to secure by-Let ters Patent is 1. inlet box for pipe: conduits havin a semicircular front face provided with a p uralityof inlet openings and an outlet opening 70 arranged in its rear face opposite said curve -front face.
2. An inlet box for pipe conduits havin a semicircular front face provided with a p u- ,rality of vertically spaced series of openings,
and an outlet opening arranged .in its rear face (iplposite said curved front'face.
3.- inlet box for pipe conduits havin a semicircular front face provided with ap u- A rality of inlet openings,
arranged in its rearface opposite said curved front face, a mud trap formed in said box -be' low said outlet and inlet openings'and a removable cover to permit access to said trap.
. In witness whereof, I subscribe signature, in presence of two witnesses. I
' FELIX NIEMEIER. Witnesses;
GUSTAV NEBEL, ERNST STRUMSKI.
The bottom e of the box is recessed in the form of of the box there is an orifice correspondan outlet opening 80
