Description

PATENTE D JULY 21, 1908.
W. B. HUGHES. GAS PRODUCER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 7, 1907.
//VVEN7'0/7 4.. 4. .4 1 BY Afro/MEX WITNESSES: MM W- WILLIAM B. HUGHES, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
GAS-PRODUCER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21,1903.
Application filed August 7, 1907. SerialNo. 387,417.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. HUGHES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga. and State of Ohio, have invented certain Imro'vements in Gas-Producers, of'which the ollowing is a specification.
This" invention is a as producer having improved means for feeding and distributing the fuel.
In its preferred form it comprises a fuel supply conduit which delivers to a hopper ec cent'rically placed on a revolving producer top, with reciprocating bars for controlling the flow through the supply conduit and a valve for controlling the delivery from the hopper, the bars and valve being connected so t at they act in alternation to stop the flow of fuel through the respective passages controlled by them. 7 i
The characteristic features and advanta es of the invention will more fully appear iy reference to the following descri tion and the accompanying drawings in ustration thereof. Y
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a broken plan view of a'producer made in accordance with the invention and Fig. 2 is a vertical-sectional view thereof. 7
As shown in the drawings, the producer body 1 has thereon the circular channel 2. The producer top 3 has the cylindrical apron 4 dis need in the channel, the top beingcarried y the wheels-5 which are journaled thereon and run onthe circular track 2' rovided by the outer Wall of the chamiel. I he hopper 6 is placed eccentricall onthe producer top anddelivers throng the assage or port 7, being supplied through t e conduit or passage 8" centrally disposed'with re lation to the producer'and' revoluble about the sup lypipe 8. v The hopper may also be supplie through the passage or port shaving the cover 10. The passage 7 is controlled said hopper.
the bars 16 are withdrawn to open the passage 8 and vice versa.
An arm 20 is fixedto the shaft 14 in such relation to the- arms 13 and 19 that a weight 21 on the arm 20 will hold the valve and bars in position to either open or close their respective passages, depending u on the side of the shaft 14 occupied by t e weighted arm.
- It 1will I111OW be underfstoofil that the hfuel supp yin t e assage 8, or c arging the opper 6, will be genetrated and held by the bars 16 simultaneously with the lowering of the valve llto discharge the hop er; and when the valve is raised to close t e hopper the bars are withdrawn to permit the supply to recharge the hopper. Fuel from the centrally placed stationary supply ipe 8 may thus and by means of the revo uble top be d Etributed at will within the body, with slight loss of gas by reason of the tight construction and the obstruction of the fuel whereby they are operated together.
2. In a gas producer, a conduit compigising a hopper, .one or'more reciprocating bars for controlling the flow of matter'to said hopper, a vertically reciprocating valve for controlling the discharge from said hop )er, and mechanism connecting said baror are and valve for simultaneously inserting said bar or, bars to stop the flow to said'ho per and withdrawing said valve to permit ow from 3. A gas producer having a revoluble top, a hopper having an inlet centrally disposed and an outlet eccentrically disposed with relation to said top, a device reciprocating transversely to the direction of flow through said hopper, and, for controlling the passage of matter through said inlet, a vertically reci rocating device for controlling the passage 0 matter through said outlet, and means connecting'said devices to effect their correlative operation.
4. A gas producer having a revoluble hopper with a centrally disposed inlet and an eecentrically disposed outlet, horizontally remy name this sixth day of August, A. D.,
Jci rocating bars for controlling the passage 1907 in thepresence of the subscribing witv o fuel through said inlet, a Vertically recipnesses. w rocating valve for controlling said outlet, and s mechanism whereby said bars and valve. are
