REMOVABLE SEAT.
APPLICATION FILED JULYZE, 1907.
wa mwm dizrles Zed: r'rr/arr 'seat no matter what the'width T OFFER No. ceased- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES LEDERMAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county "of; Franklin and State ofOhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Sea-ts, of which the following-is agspecification. My invention relates to removable seats and particulhrly to a seat adapted for use upon bath tubs, thou h it is to' be understood that it may beuse for other purposes if desired, the object of the invention bein to j provide a seat of this'character adapte to be supportedfrom the edges. of. a .bath tub and to ie eithenwithinaibath tub, orgoutsi'de of the bath tub and to effectively supportthe of the flange along-the edge of the tub may be; Further objects and advantages of thei'nvention will beset forthf-in the detailed description which now'follows;
In the accompanying drawing:'-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a seat constructedi n accordance with the invention, F ig, 2' is across sectional view of a portion of the bathtub illustrating the seat lying upon the inner side of the tub and illustrating the folded position of said seat in dotted lines, Fig? 3 is a cross sectional viewpf a portion of a bath," tub illustrating the seat lylng upon the eX-- terior thereof, and Fig; i is adetail sectional Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawin Referring to the drawing, the numera s 5 designate a "pair of vertical bars, the up er portions of which are twisted asat 6 tobrmg them at right angles with the lower ortions of said bars and to form hooks 7, sald hooks being adapted to engage over the flange 8 of a bath tub 9. These hooks are preferably The barsf5 are connected.

and braced by a; of which are bent or'tion of the ese bentends cross bar {1:1, the ends 12 banv Rilvets-liipass throu I of the bar 11 and through t e verticalbars 5. The lower ends of the bars 5 are curved forwardly as at Hand are provided with inturned lugs 15 which serve a purpose herein: after described. A pivot rod 16 passes through and-is riveted to the bars 5. A-sub-:* stantially U-shapedjframe member 17 is pi'v i Specification or Letters Patent. Application medru'i zaiiov. Serial No. 386,400."

the-bars 5 and these arts from each other. T e frame 17 exten s around the seat proper which is inseat, by rivets 20. z-fornied of wood, though it is that any suitable material may be employed for this purpose. An adjustable plate 21 is slotted as at 22, for the reception of screws 23, said screws being adapted to take into the plate 22 with relation to the seat. Pivoted to this plate 22 as at 24 is a swinging bar 25, this bar being provided with a down turned end 26 which is adapted to lie against "the outside face of a bath tub when the seat is in the position illustrated in Fig. 3.
The -0 eration of the device is as follows: .When the hooks 7 are engaged with the flange of the tub in the manner shown in Fig. 2 and the seat is thrown downwardly to its operative osition, the side members of the U-shaped rame 17 rest upon the lugs 15 to thereby support saidseat. At this time the bar 25 is swung over beneath the seat out of the way, the rear face of the cross bar 11 resting against the side of the tub to hold the structure firmly in place. When the seat flies upon the exterior of the tub as indicated in Fig. 3, the swinging plate 25 is thrown to suchposition that the downturned end 26 thereof, rests against the outer face of the tub to revent the seat from tilting downwardly and inwardly and to hold said seat securely in a substantially-horizontal plane. The adjustment provided by the screws 23 and slot 22, renders it possible-to accommodate this structure to bath tubs havin flanges 8 of var in widths, aswill be readi yunderstood, whi e t e twisting ofthe lower portions of the bars 5 to bring said lower ortions substantially at right angles with t e upper portion thereof, results in resentin the edges of the lugs 15 to the e ges of t e frame. This renders the structurevery stron for it is impossible to bend theseparts w en they are thus opposed to each other, by any weight which would be brought to bear upon them in ordinary use. When the seat is not in use, it ma be thrown up to the dotted line position illustrated in ig. 2 and moved to one end of the tub, where it will beout of the, gwa but will be available for immediate use, "if es'ired,
oted at 17 upon this-rod and collars 18 are;-
dicated at 19, said frame being riveted to said This seat is preferably to be understood the seat and providing means for adjusting r From the foregoing description, it will be the invention, but w e the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the urposes for which they are intended, it is to e understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth,
- but includes within its purview such changes 'as may be made within the scope of the appended claimsl What I claim, is:
1. In a bathtub seat, the combination with a air of vertical side bars, the lower portions 0 which arebent to extend forwardly in a horizontal plane, of inturned lugs formed upon the outer ends of said horizontal portions, abar extending between said side bars at the juncture of the vertical and horizontal portions, a seat member pivoted upon said bar and adapted to rest upon said inturned members the u per ends of the side bars bein bent until t ey lie at right angles to the b0 y portions of the side bars, said upper ends bemg also bent to form hooks.
, 2.- Ir'i a bathtub seat, the combination with a pair of vertical side bars, the lower portions of which are bent to extend forwardly in the horizontal plane, of inturned lugs formed upon the outer ends of said horizontal portions, a bar extendin between said side bars at the juncture of the vertical and horizontal ortions, a seat member'pivoted upon said ar and adapted to rest upon said inturned members, the u per ends of the side bars being bent until t ey lie at right angles to the body portions of the side bars, said upper ends being also bent to form hooks and an adjustable member secured on the under side of the seat and ro'ecting inwag'dly to contact with the si e oi the bathtu In testimony whereof I afiix'my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
