My devicejs of the same class as that d'escribed in m coending application Serial No. 256,141 ed pril 17, 1905, and the object is to -provide more simplified and improved construction and arrangement ofl the various operative arts and to provide more efficient and'simp iiied ad'usting, checkin and coir'ecting means. It happens very often in the-operation lof machines of this kindthat a key is not'moved to the -endof its stroke, or that two or more keys are struck at the same time. This, of course, unless corrected for will introduce errors into the calculations, and the purpose 'of another of the auxiliary mechanisms -is to cause restoration of wrongfullyor weidentally actuated parts and to restore calculating mechanism parts to withdraw therefrom the wrong or mdesired calculation. Other undesirable actuations or displacements of the operative partsas those, for instance, due to momentum of the arts or -to lost motion, are prevented b t ese auxiliary mechan isms. In genera it may be stated that all operative parts are securely locked against displacement until the'particular function intended for them is to be performed, this insuring great reliability and eHiciency.

A horizontal track bar 1 is secured to hangers 2--2 fastened to thef frame 3 of the typewritin machine by means of screws 4 4 as best s own in Fig. 2.-` This track bar. or frame has an upper and a lower raceway or track 5 and 6 respectively adapted to b e engaged by plper and lower rollers 7 and 8 pivoted from s afts 9 and 9 extending from the back of the totalizer isupporting frame 10. Thistotalizer frame is thus adapted .for lon'- gitudinal travel along the track frame 1, and the arm 11 connects with this frame and with the bar or arm 12 secured to the rear non shiftable` or comparatively stationary part 13'of the typewriter carriage by means of the screws 14. l This arm 12 is disposed 'at the side of the machine in such manner as to clear the front shiftable or relatively movable part 15 of the escapement carriage supporting the ty eroller 16, this frame, as is well known, eing adapted to be swung.

The arm 12 is, however, adapted for se arable engagement with the arm 11 so that t e typewriting machine can be used in its ordinary capacity entirely independently of .the calculating mechanism; At the end ofthe arm 11 a head`16 is provi-'ded having a tongue or extension 17 for engagement in the slot 18 through the front end o f the arm 12. To connect the indicating mechanism with the vtracks 5 and 6 on the track bar lare escapement carriage the head 16 is turned to carry the arm 17 `within this slot, and to disconnect the indicatingv` mechanism the head 1-6 is turnedto disengage the tongue. Care must also be taken to' connect the totalizer supporting frame in proper relation with the escapement mechanlsm of the carriage,and the ead 16 is thereforepivoted on the sleeve 18 having adjustable threaded engagement with the end of the arm 11. Below -the shafts 48 and 54 is pivoted a pari allel shaft 69 between the end walls A41 and 42. Between the shafts 48 and 54 and the shaft 69 is the shaft 76 secured in the walls 46 and 55.
