Specification of Letters Patent.

drill, and also to provide means to prevent.
the insertion of explosives for the purpose of destroying a part of the wall opposing the progress of the drill.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 represents a safe having a part of one wall broken out and shown partly in sec tion. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through Fig. 3 is a erspective view of a part of an inner steel p ate.
In these drawings A represents an outer wall of hard steel, and B represents an inner wall also of hard steel, and spaced from the wall A. The wall B has formed upon its face opposing the wall A, a plurality of laterally extending pointed spurs B pyramidal in form, the bases of said spurs contacting and their apices extending into the space formed between the wall B and the wall A. A packingof soft rubber C is placed against the inner faces of the wall A, and contacts with the points of the spurs or projections B, between the points B a packing of waste is inserted.
In a safe having a wall constructed in this manner a drill after passing through the plate A will travel some distance through the soft rubber, and the Waste where it will have more or less play, and will not be held closely to a direct line of advance, and when the point of the drill contacts with the hard and" polished sides of the spurs, the point of the drill will slip, and if the drill is forced farther the point will catch in the angle between the s um and be broken. When the drill is withrawn the packing D and the soft rubber C will close behind the drill point and the closing of the passage through the rubber and waste made by the drill will prevent the insertion of an explosive for the pur ose of blowing oif one or more of the spurs Having thus fully described my invention,
what I desire to secure'byLetters Patent is A safe comprising inner and outer walls, of metal, pyramidal spurs carried by sa d inner 'wall, a packing of elastic material arranged between the walls and against the inner face of the outer wall, the points of said spurs projecting into the elastic material and a packing material placed between the spurs, as set forth.
