To all whom it may concern: are also formed in a plate 6 which is prefer- Be it known that I, WILLIAM CROMBIE, ably of metal and which is mounted on the citizen of the United States, residing at Linfrontside of the main supporting member 1 coln, in the county of Lancaster and State so as to serve as a name plate as well as a g of Nebraska, have invented certain new and reinforcing device to protect the openings 50 useful Improvements in; Trusses, of which of the main supporting member 1 from wear. the following is a specication;` The openings 4 and 5, either or both sets, at This invention comprehends certain new the two ends of the main supporting member and useful improvements inlsurgical appli- 1 may be somewhat larger than the heads of 1o ances and relates particularly to an improved the pivot bolts 3 so that the pad at either 65 construction of a truss adaptedjfor use in the end of the main supporting member 1 may treatment of single or double reducible inbe readily detached therefrom for a purpose guinal rupture. 1 I hereinafter set forth. The necks ofthe bolts The invention has for its object :a truss of 3 are preferably grooved as indicated at 7,

The pivot bolts 3 pass through instance consists of astrap 15 made of any deopenings 4 and 5 in the main supporting sired width or thickness and which is prefermember 1, there being two sets of these openably composed of elastic webbing. One end ings as shown, and a plurality of openings in of the strap is inserted through an opening 16 A either one or both sets. The saidopenings in one of the foundation plates '2 and 11d" v as to prevent hemmed at the end or otherwise thickened so it from pulling out of said opening. This end, as manifest, is covered by the pouch, and the other end of the suspensory or band is detachably secured in an adjustable manner by a buckle 17 Which is attached to the other pouch as shown. desired the strap 15 may be covered by a sheath or casing 18 Whichmay be composed of any desired material which Will be comfortable and suliiciently soft and smooth to prevent chafing. y
Preferably the openings through Which the detachable bolt is designed to pass are of key hole shape as clearly illustrated in the drawing, so that the shank of said bolt Will be automatically drawn out into the contracted portion of the opening in which it is inserted, by the very position of the belt 1() itself, thereby assisting in securely holding the parts in place.
It is obvious that my ited to any one size of pads or arrangement of suspensory band, as the pads may be made smaller or larger as desired, and the suspensory band may be formed of either flat or round elastic webbing orbe of the pouch type of suspensory.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that l have provided a very simple and efficient form of truss of this character, Which may be quickly applied and as readily removed and which is so constructed as to permit of the attachment or its being put on or taken 0H Without unfastening or changing the adjustment of the suspensory, inasmuch as one of the pads or both of them may be detached from the main supporting member 1 -in the manner hereinbefore set forth.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A truss of the character described, comprising a flexible supporting member )rovided at one end with an opening extenrllin g therethrough and rovided at its other end With a longitudina ly extending series of key hole shaped openings, a reinforcing )late extending over the front face of said flexible supporting member and formed at its ends With openings corresponding to the o )enings of the supporting member, pads provided with bolts projecting through one of the key hole shaped openings of the flexible supporting member and the reinforcing plate and through the other openings at the opposite end of thesupporting member and the plate, respectively, and a supporting belt provided at one end with a fastener adapted to be slipped over the projecting end of the bolt l and inserted in one of the key hole shaped invention is not lim- 1 slots and also provided at its opposite end with another fastener secured to the other bolt, substantially as shown and described.
2. ln a truss of the character described, embodying pads and means for supporting the same, the said pads including pouches I and foundation plates, one of said foundation plates being formed with an opening therethrough and a buckle secured to the other foundation plate, and a suspensory held in said opening at one end and :ulapted for adjustable engagement with the buckle at the other end.
In testimony whereof l allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
