Description

JACKSON BARNES, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT.
Leners Patent No. 89,116, dazed April 2o, 1869.
IMPROV'ED BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.
The Schedule referred to :in these Letters Patent and making pax-t of the lame.
To all whom it lmor/y concern.-
Beit known that I, J AoKsoN BARNES, of Burling- Y ton,.in county of Chittenden, and State of Vermont, have invented anew and improved tenon; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, form; ing part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for securing parts of framing together, whether of wood f or othersubstance, especially such articles as are requiredto be taken apart, as bedsteads.
It consists in a metallic tenon, preferably of circular form, secured to one part in a manner to allow it to rotate, and capable of hooking behind a pin passingv through the mortise in the other part, as will be hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a piece of framing, having my improvement applied thereto; Y
Figure 2 represents a horizontal section of the same; and
Figure 3 represents a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the line a: a: of iig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a metallic tenon, preferably of circular form, having two eccentric grooves, or slots, C and D, on opposite sides of the centre. The latter groove is united, at one end, to a straight groove, or slot, opening to the periphery of the disk.
Y The tenon is let into a semicircnlar mortise, or recess in the end of the part E of the framing, and secured.J by a pin, F, passing through the same and the slot- A similar groove, or recess is formed in the part G of the frame, also having a pin, H, passing through it.
The tenon is also provided with a stem, or shank, projecting axially from one side, and either fitted for the application of a wrench, for turning it, or in a thumb-piece, I.
When it is designed to secure the two parts together, the tenon is inserted in the slot in the part G, so as to receive the pin H into the groove D. It is then turned on the pins, and the eccentric partsdraw the two pins toward each other, and consequently bind the parts F and G of the frame together.
The inclines of the eccentric parts are designed to be suiiciently gradual to insure the adherence of the tenon at any point where it may stand when the pa-rts are tightened up.
` Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters `Pateut- Y The plate A, provided with the operating thumbpiece I, and having the double eccentric slots O D engaging with the pins F Hin the pieces E G, all the parts being constructed, arranged, and operating as herein described, for the purpose specied.
J AOKSON BARNES.
