Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. MCCLIN- TOOK, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident of Hartford Gity, Blackford county,
Indiana, have invented a new and useful Combined Carburcter and Governor for In ternal-Cornloustion Engines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in carburetors for internal combustion engines.
Objects of my invention are to rovide a device of this character which wil be efiicient in operation, economical of manufacture, and not liable to get out of working order, and to afl'ord meanswhereby the supply of air and other fuel such as the hydro-carbone of crude oil will be automatically shut completely oii in case of the failure of the means by which the governor is driven.
The features of this invention consist of .the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts herein shown, whereby the feeding of the oil and air which together constitute the fuel for the operation of the engine is accomplished in an improved man her, and whereby the amount of fuel consumed by the engine will be varied proportionally to the varying degree of ower 'de-' veloped by the engine, and where y in :case of breakage of the governor-belh'the valves of the oil-inlet and air-inlet will be automatically closed and retained in closed position.

The plunger 39 is ta ered on its-end to fit in the cone-shaped en argement of the passage 42; its lower end has the shoulder 43 against which the end of the coil-sprin 44 having its opposite end against the is impinged. The stem 45 screwed into the end of the plunger 39 and adapted to be ad justably retained therein by the lock-nut 46, is provided with the foot 47 adapted to fit movably and freely in the camslot 48 of the regulator head 49, as plainly shown in Fi 5.
This regulator-head is adjustably secure on the shaft 24 by the set screw 50, and has'the ca'm-slot 48 provided therein to receive the foot 47 above referred to. Its opposite side is formed with a straight face so that there is ample clearance between it and the top of.
the head 36 when the latter is in its normal uppermost position. By this formation and arrangement of the parts the plunger will be retained with its foot 47 in engagement with the cam-slot 48 and the tapered end apart from the opening of the channel 40 and the width of this opening may be regulated to a nicety. A much desired result in-devices of the character herein described is a practical eans whereby the operation of the engine may be stopped in case of failure of the governor-belting. To accomplish this has been one of the main objects of this invention.
While I have shown my invention embodied in a mechanism of the construction described herein and-believe the best mode possible for thea plication of the principles 11r of the invention has been explained, it will be understood that minor changes may be made in the parts, and forms and details which will not in the least affect the nature or principles of my invention.
