Be it known that I, CARL E. JoIiNsoN,a subject of the liing of Sweden, residing at Randolph, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machines for Making and Driving .Tacks in Window- Sashes, of which the'following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a machine for making and driving fasteners for holding glass inposition in asash before the putty ls applied thereto. This device is to be used in manufactories where large quantities of glass are set in sashes.
The object of. the invention is further to rovide a device of the character hereinefore set forth which will be convenient and quick in its operation and which will result in the saving of a large amount of time and also a saving inthe cost of the fasteners by which the glass is attached to the sash.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and particularly'pointeil out in the claims thereof, V

The wire 10 is coiled upon reel 11, rotatably supported uponthe' pointed ends of screws 12, 12. Said screws are su ported inarms 13, 13 upon the upper end 0' the frame 8 and are locked in position by nuts 14, 14.' The wire is fed downwardly by means of two feed rolls 15, 16. The bell-crank. lever 20 has two arms 23 and 24. Thearm 23 is connected by a link 25 to the slide 19 and the arm 24 is connected by'alink 26 to a lever 27 pivoted at 28 to the frame 8. The lever 27 is rocked upon its pivot bya lever 29 pivoted to a stud 30 fast to the frame of the machine. The. lever 29 has a cutter 31Qfast thereto which coacts' with a stationary cutter 32 fastened to the frame 8 to sever a portion of the wire 10 therefrom, said portion so severed constituting a fastener 33 (Fig. 4) which is,;-subsequently driven into the sash 34, as hereinafter described. The'fastener 33 is driven into the sash 34' by a driver 35 which is adapted tobe moved transversely of the raceway-9' by a slide 36 to which it is fassaid frame to accommodate different thicknesses of sash.
Having thus specifically described my invention, I will now proceed to describe the general operation of the same: The machine is placed upon the glass 42 of the sash 34, with said sash projecting between the gage 39 and the right hand side ofthe frame, as.
