UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE G. KEITH, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF 'lO AMERICAN SECURITIES COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF WASHINGTON.
SIEVE-ADJUSTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 17, 1907.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Serial No. 374,168.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn G. KEITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sieve-Adjusters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for regulating the angle of the sieves in a threshing machine and has for its object the provision of means for adjusting the sieves while the machine is in operation, if desired, the adjusting means being exterior of the threshing machine casing.
The construction and operation of my improved sieve adjuster will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side view of a sieve shoe S1101 ing my improvements installed thereon, Fig. 2, a longitudinal sectional view, Fig. 3, a front end view, and Fig. 4, a rear end view.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A indicates the sieve shoes of a threshing machine.
1 indicates plates secured to the front end of shoes A having curved slots 2 therein.
3 indicates the racks for supporting one end of the sieves 4 consisting of plates as shown with combs 5 for receiving the sieves. The racks 3 are secured together by means of rods 6 having rollers 7 on their outer ends mounted in slots 2.
8 indicates plates pivotally mounted on the shoes A near the delivery end thereof by means of pins 9 secured to the upper ends of said plates 8.
10 indicates a comb on each plate to receive the other end of the sieves.
The lower ends of plates 3 and 8 are connected by means of rods 11 so that as the racks 3 are adjusted by the mechanism hereinafter described the racks S are swung so as to insure the combs being equidistant apart and their teeth for supporting thesieves on the same plane so as to prevent jamming of the sieves and combs.
12 indicates a rock shaft, rectangular in cross-section, journaled on plates 1, 13 crank arms secured tosaid rock shaft, and 14 links connecting crank arms 13 and plates 15 indicates an arm secured to one end of rock shaft 12 outside of shoe A, and 16 a rod secured to arm 15.
17 indicates a rack on rod 16, 18 a catch to engage the teeth of said rack and 19 leafsprings bearing against the rod 16 to hold rack 17 and catch 18 in engagement.
20 indicates a cross-rod connecting the pivoted plates 8. i
It will be understood from the above description and the drawings that by moving rod 16 the rock shaft 12 is rotated and through crank arms 13 and links 1 1 the racks 3 are raised or lowered as desired so as to arrange the screens supported by the racks in position for the most effectual operation.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. In combination with sieve shoes, racks cent to the rear or delivery end thereof, other racks slidably mounted in the slots in said plates, and rods connecting said racks to secure simultaneous adjustment thereof, substantially as shown and described.
3. In combination with sieve shoes, plates secured to the front end thereof and having curved slots therein, sieve racks pivotally secured to said shoes adjacent to the rear 01' delivery end thereof, other racks slidably mounted in said curved slots, and rods connecting said racks to secure the simultaneous adjustment thereof, substantially as shown and described.
4. In combination with sieve shoes, slotted plates secured to the front end thereof, sieve racks slidably mounted thereon, a rock shaft journaled in said plates, crank arms secured to said shaft, links connecting said arms and the racks, means to rock said shaft, other racks pivotally secured to the shoes adjacent to the rear end thereof, and rods connecting secured to said shoes adjacent to the rear end thereof, a cross rod connecting said pivoted racks, other sieve racks, cross rods connecting said racks, rollers on theendsof said rods and mounted in the curved slot in the plates, rods connecting each one of the-slidable racks With one of the pivoted racks, a rock shaft journaled in said plates, crank arms secured to said shaft, links connecting the crank arms 5 and the lates, an operating arm secured to said sha't, and an operating rod secured to said operating arm, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof 1' hereto affix my sig- 20 nature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JESSE G. KEITH.
