and when in place, constitutes a complete and effective closure and seal that is not liable to become accident-ally loosened or detached.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a jar, showing the improved closure in position thereon. Fig. .2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough but showing the closure locked. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, but showing the closure unfastened or in a position to be removed. from the jar. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the closure member. Fig. 5 is a bottom lan view of the structure. Fig. 6 is a simi ar view with the closure member, shown in section, and in locked position.

The jar or bottle, designated by the reference numeral 7, maybe of any suitable structure, and the neck 8 thereof is provided with an outstanding annular rib 9, the lower shoulder 10, formed thereby, being preferably inclined.
T he improved closure consists of a closure member 11 that is in the form of a cap having a top wall 12 and a depending annular flange 13 that surrounds the neck of the bottle, and extends below the rib 9 thereof. This flange is provided with sets of spaced transverse slits 14 defining between them a plurality of spring jaws 15 that have-inset transversely disposed ribs 16 preferably formed by stamping the material of the jaws inn'ardfv, as shown in Figs; .2 and 4.
