' Be it known that I, VALENTIN ODHNER, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at No. 4 Tarakanofiski Pen, at St. Petersburg, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Calculatin Machines; and I 0 hereby declare the fo llowing to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enab e others skilled in the art to which it tains to make and use the same. 1
The resent invention relates to means in calcifiating machines for returning numbered disks into the zero position, being especially adapted for use with that type of machines covered by United States patents to Odhner numbered 209,416 and 514,725.
As is known in calculating machines the numberof times the handle is rotated is in dicated by numbered disks.
Now the present invention relates to a dethe zero position by rotating and displacing the axle which carries them.- This axle has hitherto been rotated directly, by awinged disk','for example, placed on the same, and
the winged disk had to be rotated twice thro h an angle of 180 every time. To atten to the machine in this manner is It is also uncertain, because the handle-may be turned too far and a numbered disk may thus be brought away from the zero kposition, particularlywhen operating quic An 'mp'ortant object of the present invention is to remove these defects.

At the side of the machine there is a case C arranged in which the new device for setting the numbered disksg to zero is placed. A ring 0 which is fastened onthe frame of the machine is loose on the end of the axle d which projects out of the machine, and this ring 0 has a notch' or incision 1) which slopes upwardly. Opposite this rin a toothed wheel 2' provided with .9. lug or shoulder i is ar ranged fixed on the axle d-in such a manner that this shoulder lies against the ring 0 and engages in the incision 'u in the zero position.
Further, a spring ac is provided on the axle d between a collar 0: and the side of the frame of the machine, and this sprin as tends to the left against the ring 0. Each of the .disks 9 possesses a pin 1 against which a pin m can he when the axle d is displaced to the right one pin m being provided on the axle d for each disk. If the axle d is rotated by means of thetoothed Wheel 1'. the shoulder t press the axle d and with it the shoulder i to slides out ofthe incision a), the axle d is thereby displaced to the right, and conse uently the numbered disks become coupled in iown manner with the axle d by means of the pins m amd l and are rotated by the same, until the shoulder 4. falls into the incision 'v and the disks are disengaged from the axle d.
An axle n with a toothed wheel q is journaled in the case C; this wheel q engages with the toothed wheel 1'. and possesses, for examle, three times as many teeth as the latter. gvith the toothed wheel g there is rigidl connected a ratchet wheel 1", the number 0 teeth of which is a multiple of the ratio of transmission between the toothed wheels i and q, and has for example 15 teeth.
