PIERRE GIRON, O1" PARIS, FRAN(-E.
APPARATUS FOR CHARGING, SIPHONS WITH CARBONIC ACID.
Specification of Letters-Patent.
Patented'Aprfl 21 1903.
Application filed July 9, 1907. Serial No. 382,892.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, PIERRE GInoN, a citizen of the Republic in France, residing in Paris, 9 Rue Castex, have invented an Apparatus for Chargin r Siphons with Carbonic Acid, of which the ollowmg is a specification. This 1nvent on relates to improvements in apparatus employed for charging siphons from a cylinder of carbonic acid at a very hi h pressure.
v he arrangement forming the object of the resent invention permits of speedily charg ng siphons, the pressure being regu ated by a pressure reducing valve; it is characterized by the fact that the connection of the apparatus with the spout of the siphon and the corresponding to the moment at which the iizpparatus is attached to the siphon head. ig. 2'is a similar view of the parts in the position corresponding to the moment of charging the siphon. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the apparatus only corresponding to Fig. 2.
part e; this block com rises on the side to- I 9 moves in til he blockf moves freely in the tubular ward the siphon spout t e cup 9, the socket l1 and the elastic ring i, and on the o'iposite side the same parts h and 1', Following this art f there is arranged in the cylinder e acy indrical block (1 with lever y to which there is screwed a socket .v connected by an indie rubber tube to the pressure reducing valve which is itself fixed to the high pressure carbonic acid as cylinder.
Inside the cyiin er q there is arranged a spring-controlled valve of guided by the stems 12F and-v in the head of the cylinder g and in the socket at. The base the lever longitudinal groove e? and a groove e wi helicoidal incline.
The a aratus'so' constructed is employed in the foll dwing manner: The lever 3 being drawn back in the roove e the head of the siphon is seized wit the claw a, and the yoke d 18 arranged upon the lever r of the siphon 1) when this has been done, in order g- F to the siphon and charge it, it 1s only necesbaryto press the lever g forward and depress it to the right hand side, durin the irst' movement a joint is establishe between the block f and the siphon s out 0, in the cup 9, the claw a is depressed and by means of its yoke (1 opens the siphon, then on continuing to depress the lever g, cornpletely on the right hand side, the rod 0 of thevalve o strikes a ainst the socket h of the block f, and the cylinder 9; continuing its movement, the-valve c uncovers the passage Y it, thus placing it in communication with the passage 1. of the block f and the carbonic acid gas enters the siphon, the liquid inrwhich is saturated with it to the predetermined ressure by the pressure reducing valve. en the latter indicates that this pressure has been reached in the siphon it is only necessary to operate the level if in the 0p osit'e direction, that is to say, to ift it, the cy inder descends and the stem '21" of the valve "0 being no longer )ressed by the socket h the valve v again oliturates the passage t thus cutting voil' the siphon from the source of gas; by continuing to lil t the lever q the claw a is raised and its yoke d allows the lever r to rise (Fig. 1) and the si hon is closed, then the I joint ati is disestab ished and the ap aratus may be removed and fixed to the hea of another siphon ,which is charged in the manner ust explained.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A dcvicefor chargmg siphons and the like comprising an arm adapter. to engage the 'means for opening the disc arge valve of the siphon, a part sli dably secured to said arm and having a passage for the charging gases or the like adapted to be opened into a port leading past said dischar e .valve into the interior of the siphon, a vzfive normally closing said passage and means for moving said part and said arm with relation to each other to effect the simultaneous opening of said discharge valve of the siphon and the valve in said assage, substantially as described.
2. A (evicc for charging si hens and the like comprlsingan arm adapter to engage the means for opening the (llS( i siphon, a part slidably secured to said arm and having a passage forthe cliarging gases' or the like adapted to be opened into a port: leading past said discharge valve into thearge valve of the said slot, the discharge valve of the siphon and the valve in the passage menjtioned are simultaneously, opened.
" 8. A device for charging si hone and the i like compnsingan arm ada te to engage the means for openm the disc arge valve of the vessel, a part sli ably seeured to said arm and having a passage for the charging gases or the like therethrough, a valve normally closing said passage, a cushion piece'having a corresponding passage and adapted to be 1nterposed between said slidin part and a port opening into the interior 0 the siphon, in
said discharge valve and the valve in said passage, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence 'of 20 two subscribing Witnesses. PIERRE GIRON:
