To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Joan H. SCHUSSLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi, cago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vibrating Distributing-Rollers for Plateau-Presses, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. I
My invention relates in eneral to printing presses, and more particuTarly to means for distributing the ink upon the inking rolls of a platen press. I
In order that the inking rolls of printing presses may apply ink to the printin surface evenly and uniformly, it is desira le that means should be provided for" distributing the ink smoothly over the rolls. By providing such ink distributing means a higher grade of work may be done and greater speed attained owing to the more uniform application of the ink to the printing surface.
The. primary object of my invention is to provide a platen printing press with a roll for uniformly ink upon the inking rolls during the entire movement of the inking rolls relatively to the inking disk and printing surface.
A further object vide an ink distributing roll for platen printwhich will be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and eflicient in use. My invention as hereiii disclosed may be generally described as comprising a shaft rigidly supported above and intermediate of a pair of inkin rolls of a platen printing press, an ink distributing roll mounted upon the shaft and engaging the surfaces of the pair of means for moving the dis tributing roll axiallywith relation to the inking rolls during their entire movement over the ink supplying disk and over the printing forms, and in which,-

From the foregoing description it will be observed that I have invented an improved form ofdistributingroll for platen printing presses in which the ink will be smoothly distributed upon the inking rolls owing to the continuous axial movement of the distributing roll relativel to the inking rolls during the entire traveof the latter relatively to the inking disk and printing surface.

The combination with a platen printing press having an inking surface and a printing sWrface, of an inking roll, means formoving said roll relatively to the inking surface andprinting surface, an ink distributing roll mounted adjacent and in contact with the surface of the inking roll, a fixed shaft upon which said distributing roll is rotatably mounted, a pair of cooperating members in ter osed between said shaft and distributing rol for axially moving the roll relatively to theshaft, means for locking one of said cooperatmg members to the shaft during a redetermined axial movement of the distri uting roll, and means for locking said member to rotate with the distributing roll relatively to the'shaft after said predetermined axial movement of the distributing roll.

The combination with a platen printing press having an inking surface and a printing surface, of an inking roll, means for moving said roll-relatively to the inking surface and printing surface, an in distributin roll mounted adjacent and in contact'wit the surface of the inking roll, a fixed shaft upon which said distributing roll is rotatably mounted, an interiorly screw-threaded ring fixed within said distributing roll', a screwthreaded sleeve around said shaft enga ed by said ring for axially moving said istributing roll upon said shaft, means for locking, said sleeve to the shaft to predetermined axial movement of the distributing roll, and means for locking said sleeve to rotate with the distributing roll relatively to said shaft after said predeter mined movement of the distributing roll.
