APPARATUS FOR CLEANING BLACKBOARD-ERASERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, STEPHEN M. CASE, a citizen of the United. States, residing at 'Newark, in the county of Essex and State of ings, and ligures of reference marked there on, which form a part of this specification.

This device is designed for cleaning blackboard erasers and similar articles that have been filled with dust, and the invention consists in providing a casing in which is inclosed a series of holders for erasers and thelike, and a mechanism is also provided so that the holders, with the erasers, can be reciprocated to beat the erasers upon a wall, this wall being preferably corrugated or scrrated so that the dust will have a chance to fall out and downward.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top View of the device with the cover removed, and Fig. 2 is an end view with the end partly broken away;

I provide any suitable casting 10 on which is set a cover 11, which cover can be made to be removed or be hinged to the casing. In the center of the casing is a partition 12, which preferably has the serrations or indentations 13, these being parallel and forming a good heating surface. The partition is'open for the most part at the bottom, being supported by means of the blocks 14. Situated in parallel relation, and near the bottom of the casing, are the

15 and 16 which are rovided. with the segmental gears 17 so t lat the shafts will move in unison, one of the shafts,'which is 15, being provided with a lever 18 and a handle 19 to provide for the manual manipulation of the device.

Projecting from each of the shafts 1'5 and 16 are a series of posts 20, which are provided with collars 21 which support the spring holders 22 which have the grasping ends 23. Finger pieces 24 are projected through each of the Wings of each spring 22, so that when theiinger pieces 24 are squeezed together, by the hand of the operator, a brush 25 can be inserted into the spring holder and rasped as shown in one of the holders in 1* ig. .1. This arrangement permits of the reception of different sizes of erasers or rubbers.

I prefer to arrange a door 26, running down along one side of the casing, which can be provided with a knob or latch 27, this door providing for the cleaningof the device when considerable dust and chalk has accumulated in the bottom thereof. The central arrangement of the partition with the series of holders on either side of it, providesn large capacity for the machine, and a great many rubbers or erasers can be cleaned at the same time, but it will be understood that this particular disposition of the holders and the heating surface is not essential. 'lhe mechanism for operation can also be changed. to provide the swinging motion or the reciprocation of the holders, and I do not wish to be umlerstood as limiting myself to the particular arrangement shown. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1.
