EAVESSTRIRI APPLICATION FILED AUGJM, 1907.

WiLLIAM BEHL, OF SCOTLAND, SOUTH DAKOTA.

EAVES-STRIP.

lee. a73,407.

To all whom it may concern:

;.]Be it known that 1, WILLIAM BEHL, citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Scotiand, in the count of Bonhomme andState ave invented certain new anduseful Irn rovements in Eaves-Strips,

- Q'of which the fo lowing is a specification.

.This inventionhas for its object an imfproved eaves strip designed to securely fastendown to the ordinary sheathing the waterproofing material such as tarred paper or other sheets of suitable material, and designed'also to project over the edge of the ,roof to effectively shed the water into the eaves-troughand the invention consists in certain constructions and. arrangements of' theparts that I shall hereinafter fully de scribe, and then point out the novel features the appended claims.

For a full understandingof the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in

which Figure lis a sectional perspective View of my improved eaves strip, showing it applied; and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View thereof.

Qorresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to thedrawi'ngs, the numeral 1 designates the ordinary sheathing of a roof, and 2 designates the sheets of paper or waterproofing composition.

My improved eaves-trough consists of an integral or continuous strip 3 of metal preferably formed into the requisite shape at the shop ready to apply, said strip being twice doubled upon itself'along its rear edge to form the rearwardlyfacing pocket 4 receiving the front edge of the.waterproofing strip or sheet 2. Nails or other fastening devices are driven through the several plies of metal,-

and penetrate the sheathing l, to'hold the parts together, as clearly illustrated at 5.

From the pocket 4, the inetal strip 3 extends forwardly, sloping as shown, so to project beyond. the roof, the said stri being curled'hackwardl y and. upwardly to the bib 7, then being extended rearwardly, and provided with an angularly disposed, down.-

Specification of Letters Patent Application filed August 24- 190']- Serial No. 390.013.

Patented Dec. 10, 1eo7.

wardly bent edge 9 which is secured to the front edge of the sheathing and which preferably projects below the latter so as to protect the oint between the sheathing and the wall.

10 designates the eaves-trough over which the eaves strip extends, so as to eflectively-shed the water into the trough.

' From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a durable and efficient construction ,of eaves strip which will protect the joint between the sheathing of the roof and the wall of the building, which will afford an effective watershed from "the roof into the eaves-tron h,- and whichwill provide means for secure y holding the waterproofing sheets.

Having thusdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. The herein described eaves strip formed with a rearwardly facing p cket and extending forwardly therefrom, said strip being curled upon itself along an intermediate line and thence returned upon itself and provi'ded with a downwardly extending opposite edge portion, substantially as-described.

2. Theherein described eaves strip, consisting of an integral or continuous structure twice doubled upon itself at one edge to form a rearwardly facing pocket, said strip ex- ..tending forwardly from said pocket and thence downwardly and backwardly and provided with a downwardly extending opposite edge portion.

3. The combination with the sheathing of a roof, of a continuous eaves strip doubled upon. itself along one edge to form a pocket and secured at such edge to the sheathing, said strip ex-tendingforwardly beyond the sheathing and provided with a bib, the said strip extending rearwardly from the bib'and provided with a downwardly extending'opposite edge portion secured to the front edge ofthe sheathing, such edge portion projecting below the sheathing.

In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
