To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, JACOB SOHENCK, a citi-4 zen of the United States, residing at Clinton;
in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Equalizers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to draft equalizers, and has for its object to provide certain improvements inthe construction of the same, as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in whichz- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved construction attached to a wagon pole or tongue. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional viewtaken on the-line 2-*2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail side elevation of the pulley, its support being shown in section.,

In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes the usual pole or tongue of a wagon or other vehicle, to which are pivoted, on a common pivot 2, two bars or levers 3 and 4, disposed on opposite sides of said pole or tongue, the bar or lever 3 being approximately twice the length of bar or leverv 4, said bar or lever being intended to have attached thereto a double tree, while bar or lever 4 is intended to have attached thereto a swingle tree. Said bars or levers 3 and 4 are apertured throughout their length to adjustably receive the ends of a chain 5, which passes intermediate its length around a pulley 6 mounted in a bracket 7 having a transverse T-sliaped recess in its .under rear side and adapted to slidably engage a similarly shaped cross-bar 8 fixed to the pole or shaft 1. `Said cross bar 8 is provided throughout its length with a series of apertures 9 adapted to successively register with a similar aperture in bracket 7, a removable bolt or pin 10 being provided forsaid bracket aperture to retain said bracket in any adjusted osition transversely on said-cross bar 8. desired suitable brace rods 11 may be employed to more firmly maintain said cross bar 8 in position. From the above description the operation of my improved construction willI be understood as follows: With the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1, the device will be adapted for use with three horses of substantially equal strength, two of them being` attached to the bar 3 andthe other to the bar '4. When the relative pull'of the horses is unequal the same may be readily compensated for by shifting the pulley 6 and its bracket 7 laterally on the cross bar 8 until the side draftis equalized, as will bereadily understood.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. In a draft equalizer, the combination with a wagon pole or tongue, oppositely disposed bars or evers pivoted thereto, and a chain connected to said bars 'or levers at its ends, of a rear pulley with which said chain is engaged intermediate its length, a bracket carrying said pulley and a cross bar on said pole or tongue with which said bracket is slidably engaged.' 2. In a draft equalizer, the combination with a wagon pole or tongue, oppositely disposed bars or levers pivoted thereto, and a chain connected to said bars or levers at its ends, of a rear pulley with which said chain is engaged intermediate its length, a bracket carrying'said pulley, a T-shaped cross bar on said pole or tongue engaging a similarly shaped transverse recess in said bracket to form a sliding engagement between the two and means for fastening said bracketnin any adjusted position on said cross bar.
