Description
PATENTED NOV. 19, 1907.
J. GRISWBLL.
WELL TUBING.
APPLIOATION Plum APR. ao, 1907.
i To all itv'm'ay concern.' Y l .A STATES .PATENT essieu.-
.TAMES M. CRISWELL, OF PULLMANRWES'I `VIRGINIA.
' WELL-TUBING.
ABe it known that I, JAMEs M. CRIswELL, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Pullman, county of Ritchie, State of West Vir `a have invented certain new 'and useful m rovements in Well-Tubing,
of which the ollowing is afull and clear specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Flgure l'is a vertical sectionoil the lower end of a tube well showing the well tube aparatus in side elevation, the exit tube being rawn up 'to permit the escape of water i which `may have accumulated in the well :such a connection between the discharge ltube and the acker tube as to permit the Water accumu ated above the packer and exterior to the discharge tube to be readily taken off, so that the packer may be removed with greater ease; and another ,object is to so`construct the apparatus that shouldthe packer bey stuck it may be loosened by jarrin as more fully hereinafter set forth.
' 'leferring to the drawings by reference letters, L designates a packer of the usual construction to wEich is connected an up-standing packer tube b which has screwed on its upper -endan exterior cap c which holds in p aoe the gland of the stuffing box formed within the u per end of the tube b by means of said lan and a collar e aflixed to the in terior o tube b at a'suitable point'fbelow the gland,' the intermediate space being filled with a suitable packing. Working through said packing box is an extension f of the discharge tube f', .this extension being con- -nected with the main discharge tube f by an exterior coupling g. This cou ling or collar is located at such/a distance om the lower end of thedischarge tube that when the tube is pushed down to its lowermost ppsition its collar rests upon the Aca c.
hen in that position the lower end o the extension ofthe discharge tube terminates just' abovethepacker. The lower end of tube f is provided with anmexterior enlarge- Speication of Letters Patent. n Application led April 80. 1907. Serial No. 371,046.'

ment or collar 'i' which when the tube is drawn upward to its uppermost limit as shown in` Fi 1 strikes against the collar e. When -thus rawn up one or more openings h in the extension are brought to a pointV above the stuffing ox when put into communication with the well space above the packer, thus permitting water and sediment that may have accumulated above the packer to be drawn ofi".
Should the packer stick fast in the bore of art of the tu ing soasto obtain a forcibll;J impact of the collar i against the fixed abutment collar e, as is obvious.
It will be observed that when the packer 'is pushed down into place all the thrust is taken up by the collar g bearing against the cap d, this cap thereby affording a protection to the gland of the stuffing box and serving to limit the downward movement of the extension tube into the packer tube. As will be observed also the upper ]ar or impact collar e serves as the bottom ange of the packing box. y l p As a whole the a paratus, it will be observed, is exceedingly compact and strong and will thus be exceedingly unlikely to become deranged. a
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure b y Letters Patent is 1. In an apparatus of the class set forth, a packer having an u standing tube connected thereto, a'stufiing ox withmthe upper end of the tube, a fixed jar head or collar on the interior of the tube near its up er end, this jar head formin the bottom ci) the stuffing box,'and a discarge tube having a perforated extension, sald extension dependin slidably through said stuffing box into sai packer tube and provided at its lower end with an exterior Jar head or collar, for the purposes set fort 2. In an apparatus of the class set forth, a packer having an upstanding tube connected thereto, a stuffing box within the upper end of the tube, a fixed jar head or` collar on the interior -of the tube near its up er end, this jar head forming the bottom o the stuffing reparatory to Y boXv,-;end a discherge tube having a, perfol Irl'testinlonj;v Whereoflhereu'ntoeiix my ratedextension, said extension depending signature in the presence of two Witnesses 1 0 slidably through said stung box into said packer tube and provided at its lower end with enV exterior jar head or collar, said dis- I charge tube being provided with an exterior Witnesses: stop collar at a point above the stuffing box, l C.
