LOUIS PINNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
VENDING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. '5, 1907.
Application filed April 20, 1907. Serial No. 369375.
' machines in which the bottom article of a cross-stacked pile is released and ejected from the machine upon inserting a coin of a pre-determined value and operating the machine. I
Among the objects in view in constructing the machine were to provide means for feeding articles from a single, stationary cross stack; to provide mechanism to prevent articles from being jammed in the machine and rendering it inoperative; to provide mechanism for coin locking which will operate only on the insertion of a proper coin; to so construct the machine that it will either deliver an article or return the coin; to provide mechanism whereby the coin cannot be recovered if the machine vends an article. I attain these objects in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings of a preferred embodiment of my invention.
Figure l is a side, sectional view of my machine; Fig. 2 a detail view, partly in section, of the coin lock and return device; Fig. 3 a like view of the automatic return device; Fig. 4 a like view of the delivering mechanism; Fig. 5 a front view of the delivering mechanism and coin device. t
A suitable cabinet 1 is dividedinto upper and lower compartments by a shelf 2. This shelf is apertured at 3 and carries the flanged, stationary guide ring i. An apertured, ringed disk 5 is 'rotatably mounted in the guide ring 4, the aperture 6 corresponding in general size and shape with that of the article to be vended. This disk is provided with the lugs 7, 7, 7, 7, projecting from its outer face. Upright guides 8, 8, 8, 8, are arranged in the upper compartment to receive and retain a cross-stacked pile of articles to be vended. The upper face of the rotatable disk is provided with a channel 9 into which the lower ends of the guides 8, 8, 8, 8, or
extensions thereof, project. The lower compartment is provided with a delivery chute 11 through which the vended articles are conveyed to the vendee.
To effect the rotation of the disk, coin locked mechanism is employed. This consists of the segment 12 mounted slidingly on the guide ring4 and provided with an operating lever 13 projecting thr'ough a slot in the cabinet. A spring 14 is provided to return the lever to its initial position after each operation of the machine.
The coin carrier 15 comprises a chambered piece open attop and bottom. As shown in Fig. 2 the chamber normally alines with a coin chute 16 and the coin, when in the chamber, bears on the flange on the guide ring, the upper part being in position-to engage a lug on the rotatable disk to move same when the lever is pushed. When the lever has reached its extreme limit of movement the coin is over an aperture 17 in 'the shelf 2 and a cut out portion of-the flange so that,
being unsupported on the bottom, it falls into a money box. The lever striking the end of the slot or other stop comes to a standstill while the momentum of the rotatable disk causes it to slightly overrun the coin block releasing the side pressure on the coin and jarring it down into the money box if it has any tendency to stick. A second aperture 18 under the end of the chute 16 permits coins which miss the chamber to fall into the delivery chute for return to the vendee.
The operation of the machine is as follows :A crossstacked pile of articles to be vended is placed in the upright guides, resting on the'apertured plate or disk. A coin of predetermined value is placed'in the coin chute and enters the chamber on the block. The lever is then pushed and the upper part of the coin engages a lug on the rotatable disk moving it. As the apso I ridden along the flange on the guide ring until it has reached the cut out part over the money box opening when it falls through the chamber and into the box. The spring on the lever segment thereupon returns the lever and coin chamber to initial position when the operation can be repeated on the insertion of a fresh coin.
If for any reason the coin chamberdoes not aline with the end of the coin chute, or the coin should miss the chamber it will fall through the return opening into the delivery chute and be returned to the vendee. As the bottoms of the guides extend into the channel in the rotatable disk, and are therefore well beldw the bottom ing a disk provided with a plurality of apertures near its edge and dispenses with a rotating stack, substituting a single, stationary stack and a rotatable disk having' a single aperture. This construction is cheaper and more efiicient and can be contained in a much smaller cabinet.
1. In a vending machine the combination of a rotatable, apertured disk channeled on its upper face; guides thereover adapted to contain a cross stacked pile of articles to be .vended and extending into the channels in the disk;
and means for rotating the disk to release the bottom article.
2. In a vending machine the combination of a guide ring; an apertured, rotatable disk therein having a channel in its upper face; guides thereover adapted to contain a cross stacked pile of articles to be vended and extending into the channel in the disk; and means for rotating the disk to release the bottom article.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of-two attesting witnesses.
