METALLIC wmnow FRAME.-
APPLIOATION FILED OUT. 26. 1906.
Wi ma/sow M (if Mom UNITED STATES WILLIAM J. HENRY, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
METALLIC WINDOW-FRAME Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed October 26, 19 6. Serial to. 340,695.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Window-Frames, of; which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to metallic window frames, in which the jambs are provided with hand ports or openings and false or removable jambs which form the vertical sash-guides or stiles and are bolted or screwed to the jambs, proper; the meeting-rail of the upper sash constitutes a trough having secured to the inner surface of its front side a strip of fire-proof felt which contacts with the lip of the front sash.
The objects of my invention are; first, to provide a metallic window frame from which the sash can be -removed at will; second, one having openings in the jambs for adjustment of the weights and their chains; third, to provide sash-guides or stiles which afford great protection against wind and dust and free movement of the weight chains; fourth, to so construct the meeting rails as to afford the maximum protection against dust, wind, heat and flame. I accomplish these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a front-right perspective showing the interior lace of the frame with a portion of the right face broken away; Fig. 2 is a cross section on line :0 Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a portion of the same enlarged; Fig. 4 is a right-edge elevation of the frame showing the jamb, proper, with its openings, and the false or removable jambs partially removed; Fig. 5 is a trans verse section on line rt of Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the views.
Referring to the drawings, A -is the window frame, constructed of sheet-metal, preferably of galvanized iron; A. is the left-side exterior casing; l3 is the upper sash; B is the lower sash; B is the meeting-rail of the lower sash and 13 is the sill of the sash; G is the jamb, proper, to which is riveted by the rivets j the threaded plates C which have threaded holes 70 and hold in place the false or removable jambs D by means of the screws D. The said false or removable jambs D form the sash-guides of pulley-stiles a which hold the sash in place, normally, and afford a maximum protection against wind, dust, cold, heat and flame when the window is closed; and when the said jambs D areremoved access through the openings C, in the frame jambs C, can be had to the sash weights b and the chains 6 to adjust them.
By use of the M shaped sash-guides or pulley-stiles a the necessity for parting strips or heads is obviated. Midway the under surface of the sash-sill B are fusible links secured thereto to which the weight chains 0 are attached, the upper sash being over-weighted and provided with fusible links so that excessive heat either outside or inside causes the window to close.
The under portion of the rear meeting rail terminates in a vertical strip (1, which in closing the window, rubs against the rear face 0 of the meeting-rail 13, the said strip (1 having secured to its rear or inner surface a strip of felt, f. which may be composed of asbestos or partially fireproof material and be secured to the said strip (1 by rivets f, or other means which will cause the said felt f to contact snugly against the lip 1 of the meeting-rail B, to guard against dust, wind, weather and [lame between the meetingrails when the window is closed. To guard against annoyance or damage from water gathering on the inner surface ofthe upper sash glass E E and drip ping down, the trough h is constructed in a manner to cause the water to flow to either side of the window and escape.
Having thus described my invention, what Lclaini as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a metallic window frame. the right and left permanent jambs C C having upper. central and lower threaded plates C horizontally secured to said jambs upon their rear surfaces by tho rivets j. the said jambs having upper and lower hand-holes or weight-adjusting' openings C, as described.
2. In a metallic window frame having right and left permanent jambs with upper central and lower threaded plates secured to their rear surfaces. the right and left false or removable jumbs 1) 1) forming pulley-stiles u and I being temporarily or rcmovably secured to the said pen mauent jambs. substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
\VILLIAM .l. HENRY.
