Description
No. 865,788. PATENTED SEPT. 10', 1907. P. J. MARTIN.
SKIRT SUPPORTER. APPLIO ATION FILED MAY 21, 1907.
Witnesses v I I FRANCES .T. MARTIN, OF CEDAR BAYOU, TEXAS.
SKIRT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application filed May 21,1907. Serial No. 374,953.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, FRANCES J. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cedar Bayou, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Sup porters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to skirt supporters, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a device of simple construction for supporting ladies skirts, which can be readily attached to and connected from the waist belt of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of simple construction, of light weight, and which can be manufactured at slight cost for supporting ladies skirts in wet weather.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which the figure is a perspective view of a skirt supporter made in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a waist belt shown in dotted lines in the drawing. A loop 2, through which the belt 1 passes, is connected to a clasp member 3 having ahead 4 which may be detachably connected to the clasp member 5 provided with a transverse slot 6 having a vertical branch which engages the head portion 4 of the clasp member 3. Connected to the clasp member 5 is a piece of webbing 7, and connected to the lower end of the webbing 7 is a wire loop 8 having an eye 9. Connected to the eye 9 is the skirt supporter clasp, said clasp comprising an eye 10 provided with an upper disk 11 and a lower disk 12 between which are clamped a series of resilient wires 13 having outwardly curved portions 14, the terminal ends of which extend upwardly and are connected by means of a suitable pin or rivet15. A sliding disk 16 is provided with a series of perforations through which the parallel portions 13 of the resilient Wires pass. Connected to the disk 16 is a sliding clasp member 17, also made of resilient wire, and having a curved lower portion 18. and a terminal knob or button 19.
The skirt is secured to the supporting clasp by passing the folds of the garment between the oppositely disposed members 14, and by then sliding the disk 16 downwardly until the knob or button 19 engages the garment and holds it up under the curved portions 14 i Having thus described the invention, what I claim is;
1. A skirt supporter comprising a loop for connection to a waist belt, a clasp member provided with a head, a clasp member provided With a slot for engaging said head. a piece of webbing secured to one of said clasp members, and having a loop to which is connected a skirt supporting clasp, said skirt supporting clasp comprising a plurality of resilient wires having parallel portions and lower curved portions connected together by a pin, a sliding disk connected to the parallel portions, and provided with a resilient clasp member.
2. In a skirt supporter, a clasp comprising a series of resilient wires having parallel portions and curved portions connected together by a pin, and a sliding member comprising a disk through which the parallel members pass, said sliding member being, connected to the disk and having a ball or button at its terminal end.
3. A skirt supporter comprising a clasp consisting of a series of resilient wires, a sliding member comprising a disk having a resilient wire member connected thereto and adapted to slide upon the clasp members.
4 A skirt supporting clasp comprising a plurality of resilient wire members connected to disks and provided with parallel portions, and outwardly and upwardly curved terminal ends, said ends being connected together by a pin or rivet, and a sliding member comprising a disk through which said parallel portions extend, and a resilient wire member connected to said disk and'provided with a ball at the terminal end thereof.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCES J. MARTIN.
