MINE-CAR;
No. seaori.
Application filed December 6,1906. Serial No. 346,565'.
and State of California, and DUNCAN FnRGUsorn-ofl Havilah, in the county of Kern-and State of California,
both citizensfof the United States, have invented a new and Improved -Mine-Car, of which the following 4is aull, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to mine cars which are necessarilymafde short in length and narrow in width, in consequence of the contracted areas and inconvenient places in which they are used. 'lo een Vey a load oi any considerable quantity, therefore, it is necessary to extend .the body of the ear in height, which adds to the labor and `tiirieiequ'ired ,iii leading the car due to the increased difficulty iii lifting the loading` material over the top of the body oi the car.
Our invention has for its 'niain'object, therefore, to provide means whereby `a car oi' this ehraacter may be loaded with the least possible expenditure of time land labor. lt frequently becomes necessary,. morebvei, to remove the drill machinery and column out o the niine. This 'cannot be done conveniently with the ordinary box car. new in use, and one of the objects 'of our invention is to provide a"miiie car capable of being. quickly and readily loaded, and adapted to receive and transport Athe mining appliances out of the ear` I Such results We accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings like characters ol' reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in which Figure l is an end elevation of a mine car embodying our invention; Fig. 2 is a plan of one end of the body of the car; Fig. 3 is an end elevation 0i apar embodying e f I a modification oi our invention; and Fig. 4. is a plan ot -which is hinged at its lower end by means of a hinge pin 6 to hinge bars 7 and 8 attached to said gate and.- tiie end wall'of the body of the car. A latch 9 is pivotally attached. te the end wall 2, and preferably provided on its end with an veye adapted to engage a pivot pin 9 secured to the end wall of the body of the ear, the opposite end 9 of said latch being looped around the upper edgeol the gate 5 so as to lock the upper ond @tithe gate inpositiori` in line with the end. wall of tliebody, as slionmin Fig. l? '11n cars of ordinary Specification of Letters Patent.
width the gate 5 is preferably niade narrower than the'i'fz end wall of the body so as to leave upper side portions 2L which are. reinforced by the plates'iforming the gate jambe, thereby stifening the end wall of the car and preventing the. ear' body'rom spreadingunderl pressure of the load contained therein. Thejei'ids oth the gatesway 3 and gate 5 are..preierablylpinolie downward and inward for thel purpose ofstren heh "o the end wall'as much as possible, and alsofor d ing the area of the gate-at its lower portion, 'JilVhe'r the car is necessarily made narrow in width-g the gate. 10 is preferably extended entirelyacros's theleading end of the ear with its ends adapted to. be. gainst jambe formed on the end of the car by'insin of angled bars ll, as clearly illustrated in -Fig. fWhenLthe car is in use the'end gate 5 is droppedso as to pen'lth gate-way Brand allow the loading material to be'readily lifted into the car through the gate-way, instead vof bei ing obliged to litt 'such material over the'f top of tht body, as in cars oi ordinary constinction'.A vBut one end of the car is provided with a gate soA that theload ing material may be thrown into the opposite end of the ear through the gate-way 3, and the rear. and upper portion of the car filled through the gateway. Thei Agate 5 may then be closed and the remainder of the' load liftedover the top of the 'cai' body or gate.' 4When j it is desired to remove the drilling appliances from' the rnine, the column drill and other portions Lof ma@ chinery may be readilyplaeed within the bodyof the k car by dropping the end gate, and transported ascenviently as on a platform car.
Having thus described our invention, whatwe claimv as new and Vdesire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. ln a mine cai', a box bodyhaving a partial end avail,
hinge hars extending transversely of said wall, a gate`lprovided on its ends with hingerods, and gate jambe ere 'and yadantedto ltending vertically :ier-oss saidv end wall bear against the ends of said gate.
2. ln a mine ear, a box body having one of lts ende prof);
videdwith ver 'really extending gate jambs andv within' partial end wall, comprising a transverse lower portion und vertically extending side portions, hinge bars extending transversely of the lower portion of said end wall,`
