VE INT-NOZZLE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Augv 20, 190".
Application filed May 13,1907. Serial No. 373,272.
nozzles useful in connection with vessels of various kinds, but especially applicable to ink-bottles in order to provide for filling fountain pens direct from the same.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a vertical transverse section view of a vent-nozzle in accordance with my invention applied to a bottle, a fragment of which bottle is shown partly in section, and Fig. 2, a plan view of the nozzle.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates a sheet-metal screw-cap having a central top slot be tween struck-up ears b and soldered to the cap-top and its ears is a preferably tapered and horizontally disposed spout B provided with a longitudinal slot in register with the one aforesaid, the length and arrangement of the spout being such that its ends project beyond said cap. A compression gasket C is arranged in the cap-portion of the nozzle so that the same may have air-tight union with the mouth of the vessel to which it is applied, and one end of the spout is provided with a cover D in screw-thread connection there with. By adjustment of the cover D, the spout may be vented to regulate flow of fluid contents of the vessel through the opposite end of said spout, this fiow being in drops or a fine stream as may be most desirable, and
it follows that if the nozzle be employed in connection with an ink-bottle, it is practical to fill fountain-pens with ink direct from said bottle.
A nozzle-spout having a bore of varying diameter and provided with a screw-cover for that end of the bore having the greatest diameter is preferred, as on removal of said cover, the fluid-contents of the vessel to which the nozzle is attached may be poured rapidly through the cover-end of said spout, vent being had through the opposite end Where the bore is of least diameter. As a matter of economy the spout having a bore of varying diameter is preferably a tapered tube of sheet-metal provided at its largest end with a screwthreaded cylindrical fitting r: of the same material for the engagement of the correspondingly screw-threaded cover D that is also preferably of sheet-metal.
I claim:
1. A vent-nozzle comprising a cap having a slotted top, a spout horizontally disposed on the cap-top in communication with the slot of same, and a cover having screwthreaded engagement with one end of the spout.
2. A vent-nozzle comprising a cap having a slotted top, a spout of varying diameter bore horizontally disposed on the captop in communication with the slot of same. and a cover having screw-thread engagement with that end of the spout having the greatest bore.
2;. A vent-nozzle comprising a cap having a slotted top. a tapered sheet-metal tube horizontally disposed on the cap top in communication with the slot of same to constitute a spout, and a screw-cover on the largest end of the spout.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST N. RITZ.
