CHRISTIAN FRIEDRICH HOLDER, OI METZINGEN, GERMANY.
DUST-ASPIRATING APPARATUS.
speeincstion'of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 20, 1907.
Application filed January 19.1907. Serial No. 353.076.V
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN FRIEDRICH HOLDER, a subject oi the German Emperor, and residing at Metzingen, county O Urach, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Aspirab ing Apparatus,'oi which the following is a specification.
Nearly all the dust-aspirators in private use are driven by hand, whereby the cranks oi the commonly used two air pumps are arranged to form an angle ol 90 with each other in' order to procure a constant current ot' air. These aspirators are not practicable since they require the work ot two persons: one for the rotating of the crank-shaft and another for handling the aspiratingmouth-piece. When there is only one person at com mand onlyoot-Work may be employed, but in this case, in order to procure a constant current of air, the api paratus must be fitted lwith a ily-wheel whereby the weight of the aspirator is increased and the transport is rendered very difficult. Y In order to obviate this iuair-pumps in such a manner that the bottoms are turned towards each other and that one ot the pistons` is in its highest position when the other is in the lowest point of its movement. This arrangement has another incon venience, for, on each alternation of the direction of l motion the aspimting work stops for some moments whereby the dust rests in corresponding places oi the room or of the objects to bo cleaned,
dust'lcarrying air is aspirated by the pumps not directly f but by means oi a regulating bellows aspirating independently ot the driving-niechanism.
The invent-ion will now be describedn conjunction with `the drawing forming a part ot this speciiication same is to be performed, I declare whaty I claim i Where-the new dust-aspirator in accordance with thef invention is shown in an arrangement. having the bottoms'ot' the pumps turned towards leach other.
a and b represent the two aspirating devices which, in connection with levers, are yset in action by means oi the aand b I arrange a third bellows f litted with a lilter` plate L' and the bellows being extended to its utmost treadle Between the suction pipe d and the bellows length by means oi a spring h. The strain oi the spring i lr is adjusted in such a manner that. on each aspiratingmotion cl both pumps, the regulating-bellowsj is eompressed while in the moments of 'the alternations ot the direction, of motion, Where no aspirating action lakes I place, the spring h extends again the r fgulating bellows f and now the latter itsclt' acts as an aspirator'. By this way the temporary interruptions ol the work oi the pumps are prevented from being transmitted to the a5- pirsting conduit-pipe d and therefore a continuous eur rent oi air is produced.
The Inode of voperation of the improved dust-aspirating apparatus is the following". When the treadle c is swung down by the toot of the manipulating person the membrane of the upper aspirating device fr is lifted and the dust-ca1rying air is sucked through the suction-ctmduit-pipe d into the chamber l'. arranged bclow the regulating bellows, whereby the regulating bcllowsfis compressed. The dust sinks down in chamber lc while the air passes through the filter-plate ltand the conduit-pipe 1n and arrives'in bellows a. The moment in which the direction o1' the motion alternates is shown in thc drawing4 In this moment none ot the two pumps acts as aspirator and the, working would be interrupted, it' the down whereby the lower aspimting device b begins to convenience, some constructors have arranged the two l aspirato. The air which has passed through the valves `n and 4o and arrived in the bellows goes through the of course, it may in the same manner, be actuated also l by other means. i
lt may still be observed that the arrangement o a regulating bellows aspirating*in accordance with the present invention-independcntly oi the driving mechanism allows the producing of a continuously aspirating current of a ir also when applying one pump only.
i Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature oi' my invention and in what; manner the I. loot driven dust-:ispirzitng apparatus hav aspirntin.: devices (o and b) :is pum of a lreadlc to) and n third rcg'uhttl .cans bellows tft arwing' ik su) :ii-ranged and the strain oi said sprint,y s adjusted, that independently ol` tle driving mechanism, the regulnting-bellows is compressed on each :asini-ating motion of the pump and lcnirtlwnlJ-i when the direction of motion l l subslatti described in .vitn l l havD presence o1 two witnesses.Y
