To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, .lnssn innscorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Webster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Corner-B ead Holders, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

My present improvement is a clip or holder for corner beads of the kind shown in U. S. Letters Patent granted to E. B. Marsh, No. 562,783 June 23, 1896.

My present corner bead holder comprises two pairs of holding ears for entering the opposite depressions of the Marsh bead, one pair being located above an intermediate spring connecting band, and the other pain being located below said spring band and formed integrally with opposite securing shanks formed for embracing the opposite sides of a usual'corner beam, post or stud, the constructional details and advantages of my invention being more particularly set forth in the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings, in which 1 have shown my preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure l is a perspective view thereof; Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the holder or clip in operative relation to.a Marsh bead, the latter being in cross section; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation viewing the clip endwise from the front.

The method of using a corner bead clipor holder is shown fully in the Marsh patent 562,783 mentioned, and in the Marsh patent 617,881 of January 17, 1899, the latter in Fig. l showing a holder having opposite shank portions for straddling or embracing the opposite sides of a corner stud or post, said holder however-being arranged to engage the bead on the inside for holding it rigidly in place, Whereas my present invention operates on the principle of the earlier Marsh holder in Patent N 0. 562,783, engaging the outside of the bead. 1 provide opposite securing portions or shanks 1, 2, preferably of approximately the same length and so bent at their intermediate portions 3, as to carry the securing part of the clip, forward the desired distanceaccording to the thickness'of the plaster or the particular place in which the clip is used, to properly position the corner bead 4. l

The clip is preferablymade of a single piece of strap iron, the opposite edges of each shank portion 1 and 2 projecting forwardly in the form of i i-turned holding ears 5, 6, 7, 8, in vertical alinement with each other and separated at their free ends in pairs the proper distance to receive the bead 4 and yet pinch firmly and tightly into the opposite recesses or holding grooves of said bead, and between the top pair of cars; 5, 6 and bottom pair of cars 7, 8 the two securing shanks 1, 2'

are connected by a band 9 bent angularly as clearly shown in Fig. 2, so as to have a more or less hinge-like yielding, or capacity for lengthening or bending toward a straight line to permit the clips to separate sufficiently to receive the beadi It will be obvious that when the clip is sprung into place as shown in Fig. 2, it is held strongly, rigidly, and immovably. The opposite shank portions 1, 2 brace against each other and reinforce the resisting power of the ears 5-8, and the latter receive directly on their ends all inward thrusts of the bead 4 due to any blow or inward pressure which may come on the bead. Moreover, by having the opposite pairs of cars separated as far as possible, one pair 5, 6 being located at the extreme top edge of the clip and the other opposite pair 7, 8 being located at the extreme bottom edge 01" the clip, the ears or holding portions offer maximum resistance to all twisting and lateral thrusts of the head In other words, this construction gives a maximum base or area of engagement between the clip and bead, whereby 1 get not only increased strength over the two-ear construction of the Marsh clip No. 562,783, but a very strong angularly bracing effect.

Preferably at the opposite ends of the band 9 where it unites with the shanks l and 2 themetal is bulged or pressed out, as shown at 10 in the drawings, thereby greatly stiffening and strengthening the clip at this pointv The purpose of this bulge is to prevent the clip breaking or cracking across at the ends of the band when bent back and forth by the repeated separation and bringing together of the shank portions 1, 2. Without the strengthening bulges or bonds 10 in the metal, the clip would have a tendency to break at the extremities of the band 9 if repeatedly bent back and forth. I

prefer'that the lateral deflection of the metal from a vertical plane, as indicated at 10, shall be outwardly although I do not restrict my invention thereto as it is obvious that the strengthening or reinforcing lateral bend or bulge 10 may be otherwise formed.

Having described my invention, what 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. A metallic holder for corner beads, having opposite shnnk portions for embracing a corner post, connected by a narrow central band, and provided at their opposite edges, above and below said band, with inturned holding ears in opposite pairs.

2. A corner bend holder, comprising a single piece of strapiron having itsfree ends angularly bent to constitute securing shanks, and a central narrow band connectlng said shanks at the middle of the clip, said bandbelng transversely bent angular-1y rearward between said shanks, and opposite pairs of holdlngenrs, respectively located above and below said central band, said ears extending toward each other in position to engage the opposite grooves of a head for holding the same. 4.
