'ELECTRIC METER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application filed January 8, 1907. Serial No. 351.359.
may be had both to the front and the back of the meter parts, or to the iront alone, without opening the' back, and so that a minimum number of sealing pins is required.
My invention consists 'in providing the meter, in
addition to the usual removable front cover, with a removable plate forming a portion of the back of the casing, with sealing pins extending through the meter and engaging both the iront cover and back plate, and with means for supporting the back plate on the casing independently of the sealing pins. With this construction both the front cover and back plate maybe removed to obtain access to the motor parts of the mter, or the front cover alone may be removed without disturbing the back plate, and a single set of sealing pins serve to seal both the iront -cover and back plate.
My invention will best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure I shows a plan view, with the casing partly broken away, of an electric meter arranged in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 shows a plan view, on a reduced scale, oi the back plate.
In the drawing A represents the casing, which surrounds and supports the motor parts of the meter, not shown, which may be of any well-known construction.
B represents the front cover, which is secured to the casing by the sealing pins C and the nuts D on the portions of the pins which project outside the cover. These nuts and the pins are pierced to receive a sealing wire in the usual manner.
parts.
E represents a removable plate, which forms a portion of the back of the meter. The sealing pins C screw into this'plate, and consequently serve to press both the front cover and the back plate against casing A, and,to support them in position'. The plate E is provided with lugs e, which are screwed to the casing, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, so as to support the back plate independently of the sealing pins. It will be seen that neither the back plate nor front cover can be removed without removing the nuts D from the sealing pins. When these nuts are removed, both the i cover and back plate may be removed, so as to furnish convenient access to both the front and back meter It it is desired to remove the front cover alone, this may be done without disturbing the back plate, since the backl plate is secured to the casing independently of the sealing pins, and does not fall out of position when the nuts D are removed.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,-
1. 1n an electric meter, in combination with a casing having a .removable front cover, a removable plate torming a portion of the back of the casing, scaling pins cxtcnding through the meter and engaging both the front cover and back plate, and means independent of said pins for supporting the back plate on the casing.
2. In an electric meter, in combination with a casing having a removable front cover, a removable plate forming a portion of the back of the casing, sealing pins engaging the said plate and extending through the meter and projecting through the front cover, nuts on the projocting ends of said pins bearing against the cover and pressing it against the casing, and means independent of said pins for securing the back plate to the casing.
y In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of January, 1907.
GEORGE A. SAWIN.
