To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILSON B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Gas-Engines; and I declare the following to be a full, clean-and" exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference markedthereon, which form a part of thisspecifica tion.

Behind the piston in the cylinder is a movable head 7c, having a seat in engagement with which is provided a rocking camt, on a transverse shaft m, pivoted in bearings'of the cylinder. Atthe side of the cylinder,

In-the operation of the engine, after it has been -started, the forward movement of the crank-arm 32, causes the cam to tum forward to its full stroke, thereby moving forward the movable head which follows up explosion chamber of limited capacity. At the same time, the shaft f, is turned sufliciently to take the the explosion takes place. The explosion is designed as. take place at this time and the expansion of the gases then drives the piston forward from the movable head as a backing to the'explosion chamber, said head being kept solidly'in place by means of the cam engaging the same. w

Having described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
