To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY K. GILBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements] in Anticreepers, of

which members are provided with hooks 3 and 4 for engaging the flanges of the rail, and these members are on the member 1 has its sides inclined to each othe'r at an angle slightly more acute than the angle formed by the sides oi' th'e flange, whereby when the member is in the position shown in Figure l the hook 3 tightly clamps the flange of. the rail which clamping action is accentuated by theprovision of teeth 6 (Figure 3)-for engaging and biting int'othe uppersurface of the flange. In order to. strengthen the clamping member land also to secure an extended bearing surface of such member against the .tie 7, the rib 8 is provided, which rib is'preferably made in the -shape'shown in Figure 1. As clearly shownin Figure'l, the left hand end of the member-1 isprovided with the toothed surface 9 for engaging a corresponding surface on the i member 3, so that when the twoinembers are clamped together by the bo1t 5, the shearing strain on such bolt 5 is removed, due totheiriterlocking of the-teeth. An important feature of the invention resides inthe disposition of the hook 3 on themember 1. This hooked member 3, as above stated, is provided on its under face with transversely, extending teeth 6, and, as indicated in Figure 2, the hook is canted forwardly,

to creep in the direction of the arrow in Figure 2, it will be seen that such movement against the inclined teeth on the member 3 will tend to move such member toward the center of the rail, thus clamping the rail still more securely. It will be noted that the bolt 5 is upwardly inclined with respect to the horizontal, so that when the nut is tightened the members 1 and 2 will not only be moved laterally towards each other, but the member 4 will be moved downwardly, due to the component offorce in that directionybecans of the slant of the bolt. This gives a very effective clamping at theflange engaged by the hook '4.
Having thus described my invention and illustrated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following.
1. An anti-creeper for ralls comprising a clamping mem I her adapted to engage one flange of the rail and extend across the bottom of the rail, and a second. clamping meniber adapted to engage-the other flange of the ruif and abut against the end of the first member, together with means for securing the members together.
2. An anti-creeper for rails comprising transverse clamping members engaging therail flange, one of which memhers is provided with transverse teeth and is canted in the direction of the tendency of the rail to creep. p

together with a bolt upwardly tilted from the horizontal for drawing the second clamping member against the rail fiange and for holding the toothed surfaces together.
