To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lsInoR FLUEGELMAN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Electromagnetic Regbase plate, the magnetic cores of theelectromagnet,

, My invention relates to an electromagnetically actu- :lted register or'counter and the object of my invention is to produce. a counter of this type which shall be simple and cheap in construction; which shall be exceedingly compact and shall nevertheless give considerab'le amplitude and strength to the motion of the armature of the electromagnet which actuates the register; andin which all practical danger'of having the mechanical part of the register get out of order is obviated'by utilizing any well tested construction of me chanical counter as may now be bought on the market at a moderate price.
To this endltake a soft iron casting comprising a and a standard. To the base plate I pivot preferably a pair of arms connected by an armature swinging toward and from the cores in aplane normal thereto. I mount a so-called Ve'eder counter on the back of the standard and actuate its operating ratchet wheel by a spring I pawl secured to the swinging armature. The armature 'is pulled against the standard, as a stop, by a helical plate A and a standard'A the cores A carrying electromagnets A being either cast in one piece or otherwise rigidly secured to the base plate A. Two upright arms B" are connected by an armature B and are pivoted to the base plate at B so that the armature swings 'in what may be considered a plane normal to the cores electromagnetic part of myregister.
Upon the front of the standard A I mount a 001m mon form of mechanical counter D, such as the well ciency. The operating shaft of this counter carries a ratchet I), each step of the ratchet wheel moving the counter one unit, as Wellknown in the art. I mount a spring pawn? cooperating with the ratchet D, upon the armature B. ,Each time the electromagnets are energized, the armature is thrown to the leftgin Fig. 1, until it abuts against the stop-screw A This turns the ratchet 1) one step and adds one unit to the number displayed on the register. The magnet being de-energized, the spring C pulls the armature back against the standard, the pawl B slipping over a tooth of the ratchet D ready to take a fresh hold the next time the magnet is energized.
By mounting the armature upon a pair of arms pivoted to the base plate, and by thus making it swing over the tops of the cores in a plane normal to their axis, it will be seen that I impart suflicient motion to the armature to be able to connect it directly, by means of a pawl, with a fairly large ratchet operating the mechanical counter, thus increasing the certainty of the operation. ,In this Way, too, I am enabled to mount the counter on one side of thestandard, the armature being stopped by the other side. While I prefer two electro magnets, as shown, one may be used.
