Be it known that I, ALFREDA. O. SEELER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watches, of which the following is a specification.-

My invention relates to watches.

It has for its object to provide means ad apted for oo-operation with the hands of the watch, whereby the time may be determined by the sense of feeling, thereby rendering it possible for the time to be ascertained in the dark or by the blind.

It has for a further object to provide,

means for accomplishing the above object which can with ready facility be applied to the watch without necessitating any rearrangement or change of the operative mechanism thereof, adapting it to be applied to any watch.

It has for a further object to provide means of the character described which is simple and inexpensive in construction and" sponding parts in all the figures of the drawi ings illustrating my invention.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a watch the operative mechanism of which is of the ordinary well-known construction and therefore it is not deemed necessary to describe it in detail, but only so far as to give a proper understanding of the connection and co-operation of my time determining means therewith.

The ring 2 of the watch is provided on its outer periphery with twelve projections 23 and on its upper and lower faces with

The hour hand 17 is made of such length that it will extend between the cover 13 and the toothed flange in the path of movcment of the pawl 7 so as to be engaged thereby when said cover is rotated to the right, with the result that the pawl is forced into engagement with the toothed flange 4 stopping the cover and as the projection 15 thereon will then be over the hour hand of the watch, the hour can be determined by counting to the right the number of projections 23 intervening between said projections and the stem of the watch. An additional minute hand 18 is secured on the rear end of the shaft of the minute hand. 19 and is made of the same length as the hour hand and extends between the cover 1.4 and the toothed flange 5 in the path of movement of the pawl 8 so as to be engaged thereby when said. cover is rotated to the left with the r sult that the pawl is forced into engagement with the toothed flange 4 stopping the cover and as the projections 16 thereon will then be over the minute hand of the watch, the minutes can be ascertained by counting to right the number of projections 3 intervening between said projection and stem of the watch. Vhenever the hands 17 and 18, in their movement, engage the

7 and 8 respectively they will raise and pass by them, thus while the pawls serve to stop the rotation of the covers when they engage the pointers, they do not interfere with the movement of the hands.

I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise details and arrangements of parts shown and described, but rcserve the right to all modificationswithin the scope of my invention.

Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a watch for determining the time by the sense of feeling, the combination of a ring, covers rotatable thereon, an hour hand extending between one of said covers and said ring, a minute hand extending between the other one of said covers and said ring and means on said covers adapted to engage said hands, substantially as described.

2. In a watch for determining the time by the sense of feeling, the combination of a ring having hour and minute indications on its outer circumference, covers rotatable thereon having marks, an hour hand extending between one of said covers and said ring. a minute hand extending between the other one of said covers and said ring and means on said covers adapted to engage said hands, substantially as described.

3. In a watch for determining the time by the sense of feeling, the combination of a ring having toothed flanges on its upper and lower laces, covers rotatable thereon, an hour hand extending between one of said covers and said ring, a minute hand extending between the other one of said covers and said ring and pawls on said covers adapted tobe engaged by said hands to force them. into engagement with the teeth of said flanges,

5. 6. In a watch for determining the time by the sense of leeling, the combination of a ring having hour and minute indicating projections on its outer cireuinlerence and toothed flanges on its upper and lower laces, covers rotatable thereon and having projections, an hour hand extending between one ol said covers and said ring, a minute hand extending between the other one ol' said covers and said ring and pawls on said covers adapted to be engaged by said hands to force them into engagement with the teeth of said flanges, substantially as described.

7. In a watch for determining the time by the sense of feeling, the combination of a ring having spring plates, covers engaged by said plates to rotatably secure them, an hour hand extending between one of said covers and said ring, a minute hand extending between the other one ol" said covers and said ring and means on said covers adapted to engage said hands, substantially as described Signed at New York city in the county ol' New .York and State of New York this 12th day ol.
