IVIUSIC-LEAF TURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
Application filed March 22,1906- selial N0. 307,507.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANKLEN P. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved music leaf turner, and it consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereafter described. and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved music leaf turner Fig. 2 is a front elevation with the casing and the lower portion of the tubular shaft 15 shown in section to disclose the gearing, the screws and other connections.
The casmgl 18 here shown as of oblong, rectangular form. It may be of any other suitable form and may be of any desired construction. To its center at its rear side is secured the lower end of a supporting standard 2. A longitudinally-extensible arm 3 has its inner end adjustably secured to said standard, said end of the arm being bifurcated to engage opposite sides of the standard and provided with slots 4 to receive the ends of a pin 5, which extends through and projects beyond said sides of the standard. Said arm 3 comprises the inner, tubular member 6 and the outer member 7, which operates in the bore of the inner member and is secured at any desired adjustment by a clamping screw 8. At the outer end of the member 7 is a finger 9 to engage one side of an instrument. The inner member 6 has a finger 10 to engage the opposite side of the instrument, said finger 10 being slidable on said inner member and being provided with a clamping screw 1 1, whereby it may be secured thereto when adjusted. It will be understood that the function of the standard and of the longitudinally-extensible arm is to secure and support a music leaf turner.
On the front side of the casing 1, at the center thereof and at its lower end, is a supporting hook or bracket 12 to engage the lower side of the piece of music at the fold between the leaves. A hook-arm 13 is secured to the standard rod 2, and has its downturned portion 14 bifurcated, as at 15, to similarly engage the upper edge of the piece of music at the fold between the leaves thereof. A tubular shaft 15 has a bearing in the said bracket 14 and also has a bearing in the upper side of the casing 1. To its lower end is secured a spur gear wheel 16. To the upper end of the said tubular shaft is attached a radial arm 17, which has a clip 18 to engage one of the leaves of the piece of music. A shaft 19 extends through and has its bearing in the tubular shaft and is provided at its upper end with an arm 20, which is similar to the arm 17, and is provided with a music leaf engaging clip 21, which is similar to the clip 18. From the lower end of the said shaft 19 projects a spiral or screw 22, which is firmly secured to an integral extension of the shaft 19, and the lower end of which has a bearing in the lower side of the casing. On opposite sides of the said spiral or screw 22 are spirals or screws 23, 24, which have their bearings in the upper and lower sides of the casing, and are respectively provided with spur gears 25, 26, which engage the opposite sides of the gear 16. Traveling nuts 27, 28, 29, operate respectively on said spirals and screws to revolve them and to hence revolve the shafts 15, 19, and to the said traveling nuts are respectively connected the upper bifurcated ends of operating links 30, 31, 32, the lower ends of which extend below the casing and are respectively provided with the keys 33, 34, 35.
To turn the arm 17 to the left so as to turn a leaf of the sheet of music, the key 34 will be depressed, so as to cause the traveling nut 28, in coaetion with the spiral or screw 23 to appropriately turn the gear 25, which by engagement with the gear 16 will turn the lat ter and the tubular shaft 15, as will be under stood. T o similarly turn the arm 20, the
.key 33 must be depressed to cause the traveling nut 27 to coact with the screw 22 to appropriately turn the shaft 19.
hen the key 35 is depressed, it causes the gear 26 to turn in the required direction to reverse the first movement of the tubular shaft, and the arm 17 of the latter by engagement with the clip 21 of the arm 20, will also cause said arm 20 to turn with said arm 17.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with "he accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors-Patent, is,
1. A musicleaf turner having a revolving shaft provided with a screw, a traveler on said screw, means to operate said traveler to rotate said screw and shaft, a tubular shaft on the first-mentioned shaft and provided with a gear, a screw mounted for rotation and having a gear engaging the gear of the tubular shaft, a traveler on the last-mentioned screw, and means to operate said traveler, substantially as described.
2. The herein-described music leaf turner comprising casing, a tubular shaft mounted for rotation, projecting from the casing and having a spur gear and a music leaf turning arm, a shaft revoluble in, and projecting from said shaft, provided with a music leaf turning arm, and also provided with a screw, screws mounted for rotation on opposite sides of the first-mentioned screw, and each having a spur gear engaging that of the tubular shaft, a traveler on each of the said screws, and means to operate said travelers.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing itnesses.
