Description

FRIEDRICH ECKART, OF ROMMERODE, GERMANY.
FREEZING APPARATUS..
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1I, 1907.
Application filed December 29, 1906. Serial No'. 350,053.
To a/ZZ when@ it naar] concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH ECKART, a subject ofthe German Emperor, and a resident of Rommerode, Hessen, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Freezing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new or improved freezing apparatus, and its object is to allow of the ice formed being easily removed from the apparatus, which, with hitherto known constructions, was accompanied by trouble and waste of time.
The accompanying drawing shows the improved freezing apparatus in Figures l 8c 2 in elevation and plan respectively.
On a trestle a a serpentine tube c is suspended by wire ropes b and provided with a covered inlet opening d and an outlet opening e. The inlet opening d is so disposed that it lies beyond the reach of the water. The wire ropes b are guided over rollers f, gfand connected with cranks h, t respectively, provided on the trestle a. Above the tube c a water supply pipe k is arranged which terminates in a double-armed and rotatable branch pipe Z. Perforations m provided in the length of this pipe l, point on one arm opposite to those on the other arm, while both arms terminate in a rose n disposed so as to point in the same direction as the respective holes m.
The freezing apparatus is employed as follows :--The trestle a is for instance mounted on a brewery or in proximity to an icecellar. At freezingtemperature the water is supplied through pipe k whereupon the branch pipe l being set in rotation by the outflowing water, distributes the water in very fine streams on the serpentine tube c, whereby the water arrives on the tube c in an already very cold condition and becomes at once frozen so that long icicles are formed which with continuous water supply are gradually combined to form a complete ice lump. After the water supply has been shut off, the ice lump is removed from the tube c opening e.
in the following manner By means of lthe cranks h,' the tube c is lowered in such a manl ner that it lies with the side of its outlet opening e lower than that of its inlet opening d. After having uncovered the inlet opening d hot water is poured into the tube c which flows again out of the same through outlet In a very short time the ice lump will loosen itself from the tube c and fall down, for.instance upon a truck placed underneath the trestle a and by which it can be transported to the ice-cellar or the like. Preferably, before starting the freezing apparatus, the tube c is placed in the inclined position toward its outlet opening e, so that this need not be done after the heavy ice lump is hanging thereon.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A freezing apparatus comprising in combination a trestle (a), a serpentine tube (c) arranged on said trestle and provided with an outlet opening (e) and an inlet opening (d) disposed beyond the reach of 'the water and through which hot water can be poured into said tube (c), rollers (f, g) provided on said trestle, cords (b) attachedto said tube (c) and guided over said rollers and designed to suspend said tube (c) from said trestle, cranks (h, fi) provided on said trestle and adapted to wind said cords up so as to bring said tube (c) eventually into an inclined position toward its outlet, a water supply pipe (7c) arranged above said tube (c), a double-armed and rotatable branch pipe (l) of said supply pipe (le) provided with oppositely directed orifices and holes (fm) in its arms; for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH ECKART.
