In Figs. 8, 9 and 10, I illustrate a pan for use in removing the green posts from the mold boxes. This pan (l conforms genershape of the post, is open at one side so it can be readily slipped onto one side of the post within the mold box, has a bottoln plate G to slip under. the green post, and is provided on its outer side with handles G .so it can be conveniently manipulated in removing the green post from the mold box and placing itin position to dry.
I also employ in the present machine, a packer O for feeding the material into and packing it within the mold boxes preparatory to the operation of the former T. This packer 0 IS in the form of a spiral and is preferably of such length as to extend the entire length of the mold box to insure the pcrlcc-t packing of the material in the mold. Atits upper end the packer O is provided with a disk 0 and above said disk with a rackshait 0 having circular rack teeth extending around it and provided along the-said rack teeth with a key way 0 by which the key in the pinion O operates to turn the rack shaft 0 and at the same time permits the movement longitudinally of the said rack shaft through the pinion 0', assaid shaft ascends and descends in the operation of the machine. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and-desire to secure byLetter's Patent is- 1. The combination in a machine substantially as'described of a revolving carrier having mold boxes arranged to be successively presented to a. packer, a packer arranged to reciprocate and revolve in said mold boxes, and provided with an upwardly projecting rack shaft having a key-way and at the base of said rack shaft with a tripping disk, a motor and gearing connecting thesame with the rack shaft, including a pinion keyed on the said shaft, and means controlling said motor including devices depending in positionfor engagement by the disk at the base of the rack shaft, substantially as set forth.
8. The combination of a revolving carrier having mold boxes and provided with cam projections or lugs, a packer adapted to operate in the mold boxes and having an upwardly projecting rack shaft, a motor mechanism for turning the said shaft, a shaft having a pinion meshing with the rack shaft and also provided with a loose gear, a motor driving said lobse gear, clutch mechanism between said loose gear and its supporting shaft, a depending rod arranged for operation by the lugs or cam pro ections (in the carrier, intermediate mechanism between said depending rod and the clutch mechanism Whereby the said rod may operate the clutch mechanism, and intermediate devices -between the packer and the said depending rod whereby the same may be freed from'engagement with the cam lugs or projections of the carrier, substantially as set forth. The combination with a revolving carrier, its mold boxes and cam lugs or projections, of a packer arranged to revolve and reciprocate in the mold boxes and provided with an upwardly projecting rack shaft, means for turning the shaft, a pinion meshing with the rack shaft whereby to lift the packer, a motor mechanism, intermediate devices between the motor mechanism and said pinion and including a clutch mechanism, and means whereby the clutch mcchanism may be operated from the cam lugs or projections of the carrier, substantially as set forth.

The combination with a revolving carrier having cam lugs or PI'OjCGiJluHS and a packer having a disk, and mechanism for lifting the packer, of a depending rod arranged to operate upon the mechanism for liftin the packer, and provided at .its lower em. with a pivoted foot-piece operating upon the cam lugs or projections of the carrier, a bell crank lever connected with the footpiece and arranged for operation by the disk of the packer, and a spring for readjusting the foot-piece, substantially as set forth.
13. The combination of the carrier having the mold boxes and the cam lugs or projections, a packer, devices ,for lifting the packer, means for controlling the lifting devlces including a depending rod having a pivoted foot-piece arranged for engagement by the cam lugs or projections, devices for operating said pivoted foot-piece from the packer, a reciprocating former, and devices in connection with said former for operating upon the pivoted foot-piece whereby to actuate the same under unusual circumstances, substantially as set forth.
14. The combination with a revolving carrier having mold boxes, of a packer adapted to reciprocate and revolve within the mold boxes and provided with an upwardly projecting rackshaft, means for rotating the rack shaft and packer, a shaft having fixed VIXO thereon a pinion meshing with the rank shaft, a gear loose on said shaft, means for driving said gear, a brake device having a disk fixed on the shaft, means for setting said brake from the packer, a, clutch mechanism 11;; whereby to connect the geanwith the shaft, and means for operating the clutch device from the carrier, substantially as set'forth.

20. The'combination with a revolving carrier, its mold boxes 'and'its lugs or projec tions, of a reciprocating packer operating in the moldboxes andprovided with a rack shaft and at the base thereof with a projecting disk, gearing for revolvin thepacker, a
