LAND LEVELER OR RIDGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented May '61, 1907'.
Application filed January 19, 1907. Serial No. 353,156;
To all? whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. ScHAFnR, a l citizen of the United States of America, re siding at Sterling, in the county of-Rice and 5 State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Land Levelers or Ridgers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to land levelers or ridgers, and one of the principal objects of means for securing a series of oppositely arranged ridger disks to an ordinary plow beam.
Another object of the invention is to provide simple and eflicient means for adjusting the disks relatively to the plow beam to cut at greater or lesser depths.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a land leveler or ridger made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view through two of the disks and through the bearing sleeves of said disks.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1' designates a plow beam of the usual construction and from which the plow may be detached for the purpose of securing my leveling attachment or ridgers thereto.
as at 9, and secured by the bolt 4 to the axle 5. The oppositely disposed axles 5 are each provided with a flattened and perforated head 10 which is secured in a bearing plate 11 provided with slots 12 adjustably secured by bolts 13 to the curved portion of the beam 1. The leveler disks 14 are spaced apart upon the axles 5 by means of double flanged sleeves 15, the flanges of which are secured by bolts 16 passing through the disks and through a face plate 17 upon one of said disks, and through a hub 18 upon the other disk, said hub being fitted with a dust cap 19 secured to the axle 5 by means of a bolt 20. Adjustably secured upon the horizontal portions 7 of the braces 6 are cleaner blades 21, said cleaner blades being disposed to contact with the face of the disk 14 and to be adjustable upon said horizontal portion 7 by means of bolts 22.
The operation of my invention may be understood from the foregoing description. The disks 14 may be adjusted vertically by means of the slots 12 and bolts 13, the braces 2 and 6 being provided with suitable adjusting apertures 23.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A land leveler or ridger comprising a beam, axles secured at their inner ends to said beam by means of an adjustable plate or bearing, braces secured to the beam and extending rearwardly and outwardly, the rear ends of said braces being connected to said axles at their outer end, vertically disposed braces secured to the beam at one end and to the axles at their opposite ends, said braces having horizontal portions and cleaner blades adjustably secured to said horizontal portions, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL A. SCI-IAFER.
Witnesses:
WM. SOI-IAFER, ARTHUR F. SOI-IAFER.
