CARL SCHMIDT, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
PURIFYING APPARATUS FOR LIQUIDS- Application filed June 9.].
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL SCHMIDT, a subject oi." the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, rel Austria-I-Iurigary, have inand useful Improvements in Feeders of Precipitants for IVater-Purifyl ing Apparatus, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact specification.
This invention relates to a feeder for puri- 5 vented certain new tying apparatus for water or other liquids in 1 powdery precipitating substances is conveyed by means of a, worm arranged in the tank containing the precipitating substances, and is then mixed with the water'in quantities necessary to dissolve it. In the ordinary water purifying appa- I ratus of this kind, it frequently happens that large particles, more particularly of lime, re-
which a supply of dry main undissolved and are carried away each time that the slime is discharged, so that a considerable portion of the precipitating substance is lost. There is also the drawback that, owing to the increased quantity conveyed .by the worm, the precipitating substances are pressed forward toward the end of the tank and packed, so that the worm is stopped bythe resistance thus produced. The object of this invention is to do away with the above designated inconveniences.
A construction according to this invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure. 1 is a partial longitudinal section. Fi 2 is-a cross-section.- Fi 3 another partia longitudinal section, an Fig. 4 a plan Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
906. Serial No. 321,074.
'for this reason large, incompletely dissolved particles of the precipitating agent cannot escape from the tank 42.
The conveyer worm b is provided near the outlet opening f, with thread in opposite direction to the thread throughout its length, so that the precipitating substance conveye .forward, cannot be pressed against the end wall, as the reversed front thread will always work back toward the outlet opening j.
When the apparatus is in operation, the precipitating substance escaping through the opening f, together with the water introduced by the pipe i, the quantity of which is regulated by the cock it, passes into the casing e, and is therein dissolved or slaked, and gradually moved backward by the conveyer d; all larger particles of the precipitating substance are completely (ground and dissolved and in that state mixe with the water to be purified whch passes from the watermotor through a chute Z, into a tank below, not shown.
The pipe '8 conveys only the quantity of water re uired for the complete solution or slaking or the precipitating substance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A feeder of chemicals for water purifying apparatus, comprising a compartment a forthe dry chemicals with a feed worm at the bottom, extending from the outlet opening f to the end wall with thread in one direction and from said opening to the opposite end with thread in opposite direction, a compartment e, below the compartment (1 with feed view of an apparatus according to this invention.
The apparatus consists of a tank or vessel a for the precipitating chemicalsin which is arranged the conveyer worm b driven in well known manner, say, by a water pressure mo- 1 tor 0. Under the tank a is arran ed a conveyer d placed in a casing e and a so driven by the water motor. This casing is provided, under the outlet opening f of the tank a, with an enlargement g open at the top. A ipe t, the cross-section of which is regulated by a cock h and which is supphed with water motor casing, opens into the In the end wall of the easing e there is an opening 7c, the lower edge of which does not quite reach the bottom, and
enlargement g.
opening 9 at one end under the opening a water supply pipe i with cock h to a mit water for wetting and dissolving a dry chemical, falling down from the compartment a, a feed screw (1 in the casing 0 driving the chemicals mixed with the water from the opening 9 at one end toward anopening in the opposite end wall is, having its the bottom of the casing a; and means to impart motion to the feed screws, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CARL SCHMIDT. In the presence of- ULYSSES J. BYWATER, LOUIS F. MUELLER.
