Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
JEANNETTE W. NESMITH, OF GILPIN COUNTY, COLORADO. 7
QINTM'ENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 13,1906. Serial No. 295,860.
To all whom it may concern: I
- Be it known that I, JEANNETTE W. Nils-- MITH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the county of Gilpin and State of Colorado,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ointments or Salves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates ,to ointments or salvesand consists in, certain new and useful salves adapted to be used for healing diseased and abnormal tissue by application to, or near to, the same; such selves being suitable for treating, for instance skin d1seases and subcutaneous disorders.- For this purpose I admix with an oil or greasy excipient a suitable quantity of powdered. pitchblende. Pitchblende is an ore of uranium and besides a the mildliy radio-active uranium itself, it conintegration of the uranium molecule.
tains ra um compounds and a number of other radio-active components not definitely identified; all perhaps producedby the dis- In a finely powdered state, it roduces a continual stream of emanations o ra s or corpuscles, or both, capable of "ro ucing profound chemical and physical c anges in substances exposed to the same. In contact with, or
. proximity to, the animal body, it produces ealing changes in diseased and abnormal tissues, the emanations while steady and continuous not being so strong as, to be dangerous. A salve containing pitchblende applied to thebody maintains a mild, continual stream of emanations of great curative properties.
To manufacture such salve, I take a quantity of pitchblende and reduce the same to a fine powder. hicle like lanolin, or other fatty or oleaginous substances of a fluent nature in quantity suflicient to produce a pasty ointment or Patented April 23, 1,907.
To this I add an ointment ve-' salve, the consistency being regulated to that suitable for application to the portion of the body to be treated. A mixture of clay and glycerin, or similar substances, may be (used wlth-the powder to produce a salve of convenient consistency.
A suitable composition may be made by mi'xin 50 parts by volume of powdered pi'tchb ende with 20 parts of a wax and 30 parts of arafiin oil.
What claim is:
1. A topical remedy comprising powdered 4 JEANNETTE W. NESMITH.
