JOHN H' BURKHOLDER, OF- ASI-ILAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO WILLIAM V. B. TOPPING, OF ASHLAND, OHIO.
DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed November 20. 1905. Serial No. 288,309.
T0 at LU/$07171 it may concern Be it known that I, J GEN I-I. BURKnoLDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Door-Hangers, of which the ollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in door hanging devices, particularly in the provision of improved means for vertically and laterally adjusting the door, and it consists in a door hanger having a vertically and axially adjustable member to eli'ect a vertical and lateral adjustment of the door, and it further consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafte described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door hanger, embodying my improvement; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a hori zontal sectional view, taken on the plane indicated by the line aa of Fig. 2.
The hanger member 1 of my improved door hanging devices comprises a vertical cylindrical arm 2, and a right angularly disposed arm 3 at the upper end thereof. To the said arm 3 is swiveled an eye member 4, the swivel connection being shown at 5 and eccentric to the arm 2.
The plate 6 is provided at itscorners with ears 7 having openings for bolts 8 which are employed to secure the plate to the door, and at the upper end of the said plate, on its inner side, is a flange or hp 9, to bear on the u per edge of the door. On the front side 0' the upper portion of the plate is an offset 10 which is provided with a vertical guide bore 11, of a diameter to receive the vertical cylindrical arm 2 of the hanger member, and open at its upper end and closed at its lower end.
An adjusting screw 12 passes through an opening in the lower side of the offset 10 and extends upwardly into the guide bore of said offset and engages a screw-threaded bore 13, with which the arm 2 of the hanger member is provided. It will be understood that the hanger member may be adjusted vertically with reference to the plate, by turning the screw 12, and it will be further understood that the hanger member is rotatably mounted in the bore of, and may be turned axially with reference to the plate, so as to dispose the right angularly dis osed arm 3 in any desired position, angular y with reference to the plane of the door. A set screw 14 is provided to secure the hanger member, when properly adjusted, and prevent it from being casually moved so as to get the door out of adjustment. The hanger member may be turned in the bore of the door-plate by grasping the arm 3 thereof to effect the desired adjustment of said arm, or it may be turned by other suitable means, as, for instance, by a wrench, the rimary object of the arm 3 being to enab e the connection between the wheel housing and the hanger to be eccentric with the ivotal axis of said hanger member. The whee l housing 15 is connected to the eye member 4 by means of a pivot bolt 16.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a door hanger, the combination of a plate for attachment to a door and having a vertical bore, a hanger member having a vertical arm and a horizontal arm, the former fitted in said bore for vertical and axial adjustment, means coacting with said plate and hanger member to adjust the latter, and a wheel housing pivotally connected to said horizontal arm, substantially as described.
2. In a door hanger, the combination of a plate for attachment to a door and having a vertical bore, a hanger member having a vertical arm and a horizontal arm, the former fitted in said bore for vertical and axial adjustment and having a threaded bore, an adjusting screw connected to the plate and engaging the threaded bore of the vertical arm of the hanger member, and a wheel housing pivotally connected to the said horizontal arm of the hanger member, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a door plate provided with a vertical bore, a hanger member having an arm mounted to rotate and be moved vertically in said bore and provided at its upper end with a right-angularly disposed arm, whereby it may be axiallyadjusted, means connected with said plate and vertical arm to vertically adjust the hanger member and hold the same in adjusted posi- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set tion, and means for holding said hanger memmy hand in the presence of two subscribing ber in its axially adjusted position; of a Witnesses.
Wheel carrying housing, a Wheel mounted JOHN H. BURKHOLDER. therein, and means for pivotally connecting Witnesses:
said housing to the right-angularly disposed GEO. A. N IOOL,
arm of said hanger member. J ESSIE ZIMMERMAN.
