OLDICH NOVK, OF PETERHOF, NEAR NETOLIC, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
COVERING FOR HAY AND THE LIKE STAKS- Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented April 16, 1907.
Application filed October 25, 1906. Serial No. 340,507.
T0 @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, OLDICH NovK, a subject of the King of Bohemia, and residing at Peterhof, near Netolic, Bohemia, Austrian Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coverings for Hay and the Like Stacks, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improved device for protecting hay, grain, or the like stacks against the inclemencies of the weather.
In order to make the invention more easily understood, I will now describe it with reference to the accompanying sheets of drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of the improvement. Fig. 1a represents a side elevation of a detail part. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device.
rPhe cover essentially consists of a hood a of suitable material, such as water and weather proofed fabric, paper, or the like. This material is preferablyT provided with strengthening means, such as a wire skeleton or wiregauze orthe like, to which the fabric is attached or which may be embedded Within the latter. At the top of this hood there is provided an aperture o, and around this .aperture the edge of the fabric is strengthened in suitable manner-for instance, by doubling the fabric 'to prevent tearing, as at f and there are also provided several radiating ribs c, as shown in Fig. la. Through this aperture o is inserted the rod b, which carries at its upper end the cap s, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In use the covering a is spread over the stack of hay, grain, or the like to be protected, and the rod b is pushed home through the aperture o, the cap settling down on the radiating ribs e, thus leaving air vents r, through which the gases developing in the stack can freely escape,y For securing the cover against being blown away by the wind there are provided rings o at the circumference of the hood with ropes 2, to be attached to ground-pegs 7c.
When not in use, these coverings are superposed one upon the other, thus taking up but very little space` What I claim is- A covering for hay or the like stacks, comprising a Vhood of weatherproofed material having an aperture at the top, a strengthened edge around said aperture, ribs upon said edge radiating from said aperture, a cap adapted to cover said aperture and rest on said ribs, a rod centrally secured to the under side of said cap, adapted to be projected through said aperture and into the stack, and means for holding down said covering against being carried away by the wind, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
