Specification of Letters Patent.

. To all whom lit nuty concern:
Be it known that I, J OI'IANN GODFREY PETERSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incandescent-Lamp Sockets, of which the following is a specification.
1 My invention relates to incandescentam to t 0 means of fastening together the shell and the cap, the object of my invention being to provide a ready and secure means whereby the parts may be attached or loosened.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent side views of the o posite faces, respectively, of the eap and she l separated. Referring to the drawings. the cap A and the shell B are made of any suit able metal, preferably the usual drawn sheet metal. On the inner face of the rim C of the cap are provided two angled projections 1, facing in the same direction,'preferably on opposite sides of the rim, and each having onelace apractically parallel to the axis of the socket and one face in a plane practically at right angles to the axis of the socket. At corresponding points on the shell when the cap is fitted thereon are cut holes 2 to receive these projections. In the rim of the cap is out also a hole 3 or, preferably, two such holes on opposite sides of the rim. A spring-tongue 4, having a projection 5,'one face of which is beveled to act sockets and the like, and particularly as a catch, is provided on the shell at such a point that the projection enters the hole 3 or one of the holes 3 in the cap when the cap is fitted on the shell and the projections 1 on the cap have entered the holes 2 in the shell.
On the projection 5 is provided a groove 6 or other convenient means to afford a seat for the finger-nailfor example, when pressing down the tongue 4- in order to free the projection 5 from the hole 3. The beveled angled projections 1.
Rotation of the cap in either direction is prevented, since the sides a of the projection meet the sides of the holes 2 and 3, respec tively, when an attempt is made to revolve the cap on the shell.
Under normal conditions when the shell glcd projections l prevent the shell from be- 5 be pushed down by means of the finger or finger-nail or otherwise and be thus freed of the hole 3 the shell may then be turned to free the holes 2 from the angled projections 1 and the cap then removed.
