MIL-TON FISK, OF SPA'R'IA, TENNESSEE.
Letters Patent No. 84,348, dated November 24, 1868.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part: of the same.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON FISK, of Sparta, in the county ofWhite, and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and improved Horse-Power; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in horse power apparatus, and has for its object to simplify and cheapen the construction of the same, andmore especially to adapt them for driving grinding-mills.
It consists in the arrangement of a table, to be moved around the vertical axis of a xed bed by the horse, said movable table carrying-a counter-shaft and gearing deriving motion from a wheel secured to the fixed bed, and communicating it to a central spindle, which may serve as the spindle of a set of stones on the top of the movable table, or as a shaft for conveying motion to other machinery when the upper stone is removed and another sectionof shaft coupled thereto.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of luy-improved apparatus, partly in section;
Figiu'e 2 represents a plan view; and
Figure 3 represents the adaptation of a millstone to the spindle.
` Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts.
A represents a circular bed, preferably supported n posts, upon which the wheel B is secured, having interna] teeth and a smooth upper edge.
O and G represent a movable table, to be operated by the horse or other animal, and supported on a central spindle, D, resting at its lower end on the adjusting-lever E. o
The said table is provided with a counter-shaft, F,
which derives rotary motion from the wheel B,.and
communicates it to the s indie G by suitable wheels.
H represents the bed-s one of a graineglinding mill, which may be set in the top, C, ofthe table, and through which the point of the spindle projects, and is arranged to receive and communicate motion to an upper stone, as represented in iig. 3, 0r when the stone is removed, a socketed section of a shaft, I, may be applied to convey motion in any suitable -manner, as, for instance, by a horizontal shaft, K, for the propulsion of other machinery. j The spindle Gis setin a step cn the adjusting-lever L, for the purpose of adjusting the running-stone with reference to thel bed-stone, and the object of setting the spindle D upon an adjusting-lever is to regulate the position of the .table O with reference to the face of the Wheel B, to prevent too much friction thereon. A meal-box may be set in the vacant space between the parts C and O of the movable table, for the reception of the meal from the grinding-stones. i
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.. The tableV O C arranged as shown, and provided with the adjustable spindles D and G, and the operating-shaft F, and its Wheels, in combination with the wheel B and bed A, all substantially as and for the purpose described. A 4
2. The combination, Withthe movable table G O and spindle G, of bed-stone H, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The combination, with the spindleG, of the sock? eted shaft I, substantially as and for the purpose de l scribed.
