Description

V. Ci DUCLO'S.
vWheel Plow.
No. 84,097. Y Patented Nov. 17, 1868.
@eten @anni @time V. C. DUCLOS, O F NEW HARMONY, INDIANA. v Lenmratan No. 84,097, dma November 17,1868.
The .Shedule referred to :ln these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To'all whom, it 'ma/y conce/m Be it known that I, V. 0. DUoLos, of New Harmony, in the county'of Posey, and inthe State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description tb ereof, reference being had to the accompanying4 drawings, and to the letters of ,reference marked'there'on.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and general'arraugement of a plow o n' wheels, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the artv to which vmy invention appertains, to malte and use the same, I will' now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referringto the annexed drawings, which form a part of ,this specification, and which `represent a perspective view of my plow. v
A represents the axle, to the ends of which the wheels B -B are attached. i
"From one end of the axle A, two hounds U C extend forward; which hounds are at suitable distance apart, and, dem the forward end of the inner one, a bar, D,
connects it with the other end of the axle A, thus forming a triangular frame, as shown in 'the drawing, on which frame the drivers seat E is placed.
The beam F, which is placed between thehounds C C, and pivoted at their forward ends by means of a bolt, a, is hinged just at the ends of said hounds by means of small iron bars b b,secured, one on the upper and one on the lower sideof the rear part of the beam, and a bolt passing through said metal bars and the end of the front part of said beam, so that they beam ca n be turned to either side.
The plow G is secured to the lower side of this hinged partei1 the beam F. By this arrangemenuit will be`A seen, the beam is principally behind the plow,
and the plow is allowed to follow the horses, without any strain whatever on the running gear. It also en- 'ables the driver to turn a square corner, without the ,motion of the wheels.
The front end of the hinged part of the beam F is forked, and the tongue H is inserted therein, and secured-by a bolt, just in iront of the plow, and the whifiie-trees I are secured above the plow on the beam F, which brings the horses close up to the same, and have a great deal more power.-
Near the rear ends ofthe hounds C C 'are two upright posts J J, connected on top 'with a cross-bar, and at the rear end of the beam F is' an arm,`K, pivoted, which extends up between the posts J J.
Said arm K has a pin, fl, through the same, which is placed in notches on the re'ar lsides of the posts, thus raising pr lowering the beam F, and with it the plow G. In this manner the plow islet in and out of the ground, and inay be set at any-desireddepth.
4 To the tongue His secured a lever, Lwhich extends backward, and, by a chain,'is'connected with the beam F, above the plow. The rear end of said lever'L is provided with a chain, which is hooked on the crossbar, above the posts J J, s'o that the lever can be raised or lowered at will, and, by that-means, the plow raised out of the grouudwhen travelling.
- The posts J J, to which the lever L and arm K are both connected, being`alongside'the drivers seat, it will be seen that the driver, at the same time that he has full control over his horses, can set the plowto any desired depth.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettersr Patent, is-
l. The arrangement of the notched standards J J, arm K, and pind, for the purpose of regulating the plow, substantially Vas herein set forth.
2. The combination of the hounds C C, hinged beam F, arm K, standards J J, and lever L, all constructed and operating substantially and'for the purposes herein vset forth. l
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 10th day of September, 1868. V. C. DUGLOS. Witnesses:
G. W. SLATER, A.. H. FRETAGEOT.
