Be it known that I, CONRAD J. DORFF, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Splices for Electric Wires, of which the following is a specification. fig, This invention relates to that type of splices for electric wires which are formed from a metal strip bent into shape to form two adjoining channels for the reception of the respective wire ends; and the present improvement has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation of parts whereby leakage of the spelter used to braze the splice in shape into the interior of the channels isprevented and with which the diameter of the said channels can be forcibly decreased and the circular nature thereof be still preserved, all as will hereinafter more fully appear and be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrative of the present invention, Figure 1 is an elevation of the splice in an untwisted condition previous to use. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the splice in its twisted condition. Fig. 3 is an enlarged end view.
As represented in the drawings, the splice is of the same general form and construction as the ordinary form of wire splices now in general use and comprises a plate of ductile metal having its longitudinal side portions bent around to form two adjoining circular channels 1 and 2 for the reception of the respective ends of the wires to be spliced, the
central part of said plate having a longitudinal ridge 3 to assist in imparting the required circular form to the channels 1 and 2 aforesaid.
The present improvement involves the combination of the central longitudinal ridge 3, formed with counterpart flat faces at either side of its apex, and a corresponding formation of the longitudinal plate from which the splice is formed, so that said longitudinal edges will have beveled surfaces I of considerable extent to abut upon the aforesaid straight faces of the longitudinal ridges 3 and by this extended surface contact thus produced prevent any leakage into the interior of the channels 1 and 2 of the spelter used in brazing the joints, and at the same time such construction affords a true circular form in cross-section to said channels.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A wire-splice formed of a plate of ductile metal having a central longitudinal ridge, the surfaces on each side of the apex of which are flat, and beveled longitudinal edges, the respective side portions of the plate being bent in opposite directions toward each other to form adjoining channels and bring the beveled edges aforesaid into extended surface contact with the flat faces of said longitudinal ridge to afford a true circular form in cross-section to said channels.
