Beit known that I, ADELBERT O. BENECKE, a resident of the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rheo stats, of which the following is a specification. The construction of rheostats for laboratory 'and other purposes has hitherto been along certain lines which have rendered them objectionable for various' reasons,- among which may be stated that raised against the ordinaryrheostat, wherein the 'resistances have to be cut in or cut out by means of one plug or a series of plugs, and in some cases the readings are -not shown as d1- re`ct, lbut the resultant readings must be ar otherwise objectionable,
