The object of this invention is to provide a governing and reversing controller in a'very simple and compact form.
My invention may be embodied in a crane controller wherein the controlling-barrel is horizontally located on top of the box containing the resistance. In such controller it is important to have the barrel short to prevent excessive width of the structure. In accomplishing this I place the governingsegments on one side of the barrel and the reversing-segments on the opposite side of the same barrel, appropriate contact-fingers be- 1ng provided. I provide a double set of contact-fingers for the governing-segments and a single blow-out device for the two sets. The arrangement of the contact-fingers and blow-out to allow access to the interior and the arrangement of the operating-lever also contribute to the efficiency of my controller. , The controller-barrel is formed by a cylinder of wood H, mounted at its ends in metallic caps J, which have trunnions j, extending into bearings in the pates C C. On the trunnion y' is secured a lever K, by which the barrel may be oscillated to operate the controller. Mounted on the upper part of the barrel are the contact-segments N, which are adapted to cooperate with the contact-fingers G and G, some of the segments cooper ating with contact-fingers of both sets. The particular arrangement of the contact-segments will be hereinafter explained.
On the under portion. of the barrel H are secured the segments of the reversing-switch, of which two, p and p appear in Fig. 1. The particular arrangement of these segments is shown in the diagram. For the present it is sufficient to say that they are curved plates desired, and that cooperating with the seg ments are the contact-fingers Q, carried by brackets S, which are mounted on the wooden block 0, carried by the plate 5, above referred to.
It will be seen from the above description that a very compact controller is produced. By locating the governing-segments on one half of the controller-barrel and placing the reversing-segments on the op osite half the barrelneed be onlysubstantia ly half as long as with the reversing-segments beyond the governing-segments.
