A railway cattle-guard having a supporting-frame adapted to be mounted between the rails, a platform-shaft journaled upon said supporting-frame and having crank portions located beneath the rails, platforms connected with said platformshaft and each having side bars and a crossbarforming an inclosure, an auxiliary-frame shaft journaled upon said supporting-frame and having a plurality of sets of diverging lingers located in the inclosure formed by the side and cross bars of the platform and adapted to belimited in their downward movement by the platform-shaft, a main guardshaft pivotally mounted upon the upper surface of the supporting-frame, a main guardframe connected with said main-frame shaft and consisting of a plurality of sets of fingers having bent ends adapted to rest upon the adjacent platform and be thereby limited in their downward movement, depending arms connected with the main-frame shaft, links connecting said depending arms with the cross-bars of the adjacent platforms, de ending arms connected with said auxiliary-flame shaft, links connecting the depending arms of the main-frame shaft with the depending arms of the auxiliary-frame shaft, and signal mechanism adapted to be operated simultaneously with said main and auxiliary frames.

A railway cattle-guard having a main guard-frame, an auxiliary guard-frame located adjacent thereto and having a plurality of sets of diverging fingers, means adapted to be operated by an animal for simultaneously raising the guard-frames, signal means, and mechanism for actuating the same simultaneously with the guard-frames.
