Description

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEroE.
FERDINAND G. HAAS, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.4 lBOILEF'I FLUE, PIPE, AND 'll'.-UBE CUTTING I VIACYHINE.
` My invention relates to an ventirely new pipe, o r tube up to the shoulder S and acts kind of boiler flue, pipe, and tube cutting machine in which by means of two-eccentrica one inside the other and operated by a rod and a hand-wheel, I can place a large circular cutter inside the flue to be-cut.
` The object of this machine is to. do away with so many delicate springs and small screws, small cutters, air-pistons, wedges, cams, and gears now in use and to produce a more substantial machine which costs less to make and keepin repair and which one man can operate with ease.
by the mechanism illustrated in the accomnying drawings, i in which` Figure 1 is ahorizontal section viewof the entire machine. views.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A is the cutter, which revolves on and is held in place by the stud-bolt B and screwed into the adjusting-eccentric E.
E is an adjusting-eccentric which is tted into the equalizing-eccentric D.
Cis ythe shell that enters the boiler flue,
Figs. 2 and3 are detail a bearing for D to revolve in. I is a tube or pipe one end of which screws into an equalizing-eccentric D and the other Aend is cut, as shown in Fig. 2, to allow the one spoked hand-wheel M to make half a turn, which brings the cutter in contact with the boiler iiue, pipe', or tube.
F is a rod one end of which is screwed into the eccentric E, with a shoulder E2 to keep E from slipping backward and a shoulder F2 on rod F to keep it from slipping forward, and the two hold the same in place, and the other end J is squared to enter the square J J in hand-wheel M, Fig. 2, and a small guide G, that enters the eccentric-bushing X, which is made to correspond with eccentric E, holds the rod F and hand-wheel M rigid and in line with eccentric E.
R represents ball-bearings to reduce friction.
Vis a spring-rin sprung over C and D and enters the grooves TV, provided for same, and
. ,Specification of Letters Patent. Applicaiipi ined April 7, 1906. serial No. 310.521.
g and in or to the hand-wheel M.
XX is a square on the eccentric-bushing Xl any I obtain these objects` Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
X 1s an eccentricbushing one 'end' of the back same as pipe or tube II in Fig. 2 to allow hand-wheel to enter.
O is a ratchet, a partof eccentric-bushing X, which extends half-way around the said eccentric-bushing X, into which the pawl L to prevent dust and grit from getting into the bearing, and also to keep C and D together.
fits to keep the cutter A inthe desired position while cutting and is fastened to the single spoke of the hand-wheel M by thepin N rept in mesh by the spring Y, fastened to-iit a wrench when worked by hand.
4T is a' taper shank of standard size to it motor to run the machine bypower. Fig. 3 shows the eccentric D. Fig. 2 shows the hand-wheel. v f
K K are webs to strengthen hand-wheel.
JJ represent the square into which the square J `on rod F iits.v
LL in Fig. 2 is where the pawl'L, Fig. 1, iits in.
Z is a thumb-plate on the pawl L, by pressing which draws the pawl L out of mesh and allows the Vcutter to be set at a startingpoint, as shown by dotted line of A2, Fig. 1. The machine is set at starting-point,` as indicated by dotted lines A2 in Fig. 1, and enters into the boilerilue, pipe, or tube up to shoulder S on shell C. Then machine is run or propelled either by hand or power attached to the square XX or taper or shank T. The cut in the iiue or tube is regulated by the hand-wheel M, `aided by the teeth in the ratchet, or the wheel M maybe provided with afriction or other means of regulating the cut, and at the same .timefthe power attached to the taper or shank T revolves the cutter in the flue or tube to be cut off.
I-Iaving thus` described my invention, what I claim Vas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is*
IOO
' 1. Ina flue-cutting machine, a combination of a circular cutter carried by an eccentric for adjusting the cutting by means of a rod and `a one-spoked adjusting-wheel, said eccentric carried by another equalizing-eccen tric for enabling the circular cutter to enter the iiue to be out, said eccentric being driven by a tube connected with a driving-shank and an eccentric-bushing carrying the ad- IOS IIO
justing-rodall substantially as shown and described.
2. In a Hue-cutting machine, the combination of a circular cuttercarried-byT an adjusting-eccentric said eccentric carried by ani equalizing'-ecc'entric,l a containing-sleeve hav'- ing ball-bearings for a shoulder ofthe equaliZing-eccentric, and a spring-ring for protecting. the ljoint and holdingA the fequalizingeccentric to said sleeve.
3.. In ai'lue-cutting machine, the combination of an eccentric carrying a cutter, said eccentric beingcarriedfby another eccentric for lpermitting the cutter Ato enter the flue,a sleeve for receiving the latter eccentric, said sleeve provided with a shoulder for holding the machine inposition, and ardriving-tube, ro'd, andeccentric-bushing, all substantially as .and for the purpose specified.
4. In-ailue-cutting machine the combina-- tion of'a -cutter secured lto an! eccentric foradjusting the position'of the cutter said 'eccentric carried by ani eccentric for offsetting.
