Patented Oct. 30, 1906.
Application filed April 5, 1906. Seria No. 310,113.
To all whom, it may concern.- I .Be it known that I, ERNEST DE Wi'rr R. GA'IRDEN, a citizerrol theUnited States, resid- 5 ing at Tarrytown, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Dentures; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers' skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in artificial dentures, and more particularly to bridgework; and it consists in certain novel features oi construction, combination, and arrangement ot parts hereinafter described The object oithe invention is to provide a simple, practical, and oil" ient means for sethcir metal backings or work and the like.
The above and other objects, which will appear as the nature oi" my invention is hot tcr understood, are acemnplished by means oi the emistruction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 :rpcrspectivc' view of an embodiment oi my invention, showing a group of bicuspids and molars. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal View through the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sections l. view, and Fig. 4 is a perspective View, of one of the porcelain biting surfaces or faoinrs.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, '1. denotes my improved artificial denture or bridge consisting of two bicuspids 2 23 and two molars i 5, arrang cd in consecutive order, the outer bicuspid 2 and molar 4 being in the form oi the usual crown lo fit over natural teeth or the stumps: thereof. These by a-metayl bridge 6, winch Forms backin gs or caps? 8 for the inner .2 raid 3 and the inner molar 4, said bicusu molar o 4 having outer porcelain bitcavities 11 and intheir inner faces with grooves or notches 12 to receive the cement which secures them in their metal caps or holders? 8. The latter have their surrounding edges bent inwardly to a slight extent, as
shown, and in their central portions are sol-- dered or-otherwise secured metal loops 13,
which are adapted to fit into the cavities or the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring, a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' The herein-described artificial dentures comprising crowns, a bridge connecting them and having a flanged edge and an anchor loop, a facing-on the bridge engaged by the flanged edge thereof, having a cavity to seccive the anchor-loop and also having a secess on its inner side, and cement in said cavity and recess s curing the facing to the'loop and to the'bridge.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
