Description

HENRY HERRERl-yor JERSEY CITY, ANEW JERSEY.
Eems Patent Nassassi, dazed octane/r 27, 186s.
mnovnn BUCKLE.
The Schedule'refen'ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Know all mm by these presents:
u That I, HENRY HERBERT, of Jersey City, Hudson county, and State of New Jersey, have inventedI a new and improved Buckle and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference Vbeing had to the annexed drawings, forming apart of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a buckle, which will lock the ribbon or any other maf terial intended to be used, on both ends of the buckleframe, without the application 'of any spike or pin, or any other fastening. v
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same.
Figure l is a view of the buckle, with the ribbon se-' curely locked' on both sides of the frame.4
Figure 2 is afront view of the buckle.
Figure 3 is a rear view'of the buckle.
Figure 4 is a detail drawing, showing the slides E F, as seen from the'back view of the buckle.
Figure 5 is also a detail drawing, showing the slides E F',`as seen from the back view of the buckle.
A B C D isa small metal-trame,'stamped out of a sheet. The four sidesfof the frame are AIB, O D, A O, and B D. On the sidesA C and B D are longitudinal apertures (slots) formed (for the insertion of the bentsof the slides E F) by the inside framepiedes m n and o 1).
i E -F and E F are the slides. They are alike to-each other in every respect, and the description of one applies also to the other.4
It consists .of a piece of metal, with @longitudinal aperture (slot) extending thrfn1ghits/entire length. It is first bent. on bothvvrendsgand then inserted in the slots of the buckle-ame, above described, and ,then
both endsare' again bent, so asto clasp the bars in n and o p, leaving, however, sucient room to slide freely on the said bars.
To operatesmy said invention, I insert thejends of a ribbon or othenmaterial in the apertures of the slides `E F,'then passirgthe ,said ends underneath, between the bottom of the\\slide and the inside edge of the frame, as shown in iig. 1. When the .libbon is to be used to tighten any article, either one or the other end of the ribbon, or both ends, are drawn in the d. rection indicated by the arrows in iig. 1.. The eiect of this is to press one slide toward the side Av B, and the other toward the other side of the'frame, and helding between the said slides and the frame-pieces the ends of the ribbon or other material.
To loosen the ribbon or other material, it is only necessary to move `either of the slides by the upper bar of the slide.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent o f the United States, is`y The self-fastening buckle, consisting of aframe and twok slotted slides, for the purpose substantially as described.
HENRY HERBERT.
