Description

halted 51mm Ww-l J Memes@ FRANCIS 4R.IW'OLFINGER AND JOSEPH BARRETT, OI" CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. e
IMPROVE!) EXTENSION-TABLE.
yThe Schedule refeh'ed to'i these Letters Patent and making part of vthe same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, FRANCIS R. WOLFINGER, of
' the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, and JOSEPH BARRETT, of Ireland, and resident of Chicago, Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements Vin Extension-Tables 5 and We do hereby declare that the following, is l a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, -in
Figure 1 represents side elevation of the table when half extended, and Y y Figure 2 represents the plan of extension-folds, rails, and pockets.
Similar letters of reference represent similar parts of the table.
The nature of our invention consistsin the extension arrangement of the parts of the table, the same lnovingor extending from the sides of the central or main part of the table to thc outer ends. r
It consists also in making the said central or main part of the table in such a manner as to have it provided witll recesses suflieiently largeyto hold any number of auxiliary leaves when the table is folded.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
\A is the main or central solid part of the table, supported by foui' legs, a a, and providediwith partition B, on and to the top of which a narrow stationary leaf or cpentre-pieeql), is secured, which leaf-or`ecntrepiece makes, when 'the table is folded, one level surface with leaves C C, secured to and moved with end-rails DD, supported by legs E E. l
F F are recesses, made in the cross-rails R R of the central table A, into which auxiliary leaves, G G, are placed when the table is folded, the top of their piles coming snugly under the leaves C C.
H H are the extension-folds, each made of two or more links, and of such width, or, rather, height, that when extended, the auxiliary leaves placed on them make one smooth surface with centre-leaf 11 and leaves C C.
Pockets, I I, are provided in the rails and D', on the outside of D and on the inside of D', to accommodate the extension-folds when the table is folded.
g g are the dowel-pins, fitting corresponding holes,
to retain auxiliary leaves in place; and h It are notches, made in side rails' D D, to accommodate the dowelpins g g', when said leaves occupy the recesses F F.
Necessary hooks and staples are provided to secure table A to the extending-trames when the table is folded.
The width of the auxiliary leaves G G is such that, when the table is extended, they will fill the space between the centre-piece l) and the leaves C C thoroughly.
That we claim as ein invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv An extension-table, consisting of a central frame, A, having the side rails cut away to form recesses-F, to receive the detachable top boards G, and having the extension-frames connected thereto by the hinged bars H, all constructed and arranged to operate as set forth.
