proved features of economy, convenience,
utility, and efiiciency.
It is well known that a broom does better work if moistened with water or oil and that a broom so moistened does not becorre brit tle, and consequently wears longer.
It is an object of this invention to provide a fountain which may be attached to a broom of ordinary construction and so arranged that as the broom is shaken in use both sides will be evenly and substantially uniformly moistened.
A further object of the invention is to provide improved means for attaching the foun tain to the broom.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accomp anying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the fountain applied to a broom. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improved fOUIltSi'H disconnected. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the fountain.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
The improved fountain forming the subject-matter of this application is adapted to be applied to a broom of the ordinary construction, as 10, and having the usual handle 11. In its preferred form the fountain comprises a pair of reservoirs 12, having substantially plane inner walls 13 to conform to the sides of the broom and provided at their lower edges with small openings 14.. At their upper sides the reservoirs are provided with charging-necks 15, which may be closed in any approved manner, as by the stoppers 16. The reservoirs are provided at their ends with apertured wings or extensions 12, and clamping members or slats 17 are secured to these wings by means of bolts 18 and nuts 19. Between the plates 17 and the reservoir are clamped the ends of a sheet 20, of elastic material, which passes about the edges of the broom and clamps the reservoirs thereon. At their upper edges the reservoirs are provided with aperture.) 21, in which are hinged bails '22, proportioned to pass over the top of the broom and about the handle.
I consider the extensions or wings 12 of much importance, because they present broad flat surfaces, to which the elastic sheets 20 can be secured, and bolts 18 can be employed to clamp the plates 17 into position without weakening or perforating the reservoirs.
With the dev ce mounted upon a broom, as shown in Fig. 1, the elastic sheets 20 will clasp the reservoirs firmly upon the broom and hold the straws ofthe broom in compact relation. The reservoirs will be filled through the necks 15 with water or oil, and the necks being closed and the apertures 14 being small the liquid will pass out only when the broom is shaken in use. As the reservoirs are disposed upon each side of the broom, it is obvious that the broom will be moistened evenly and uniformly.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A fountain for brooms comprising oppositely-disposed resiliently-connected perforate reservoirs, and handle-engaging bails pivotally connected to the reservoirs.
2. A fountain for brooms comprising oppositely-disposed perforate reservoirs having end extensions, resilient devices detachably secured to said extensions and connecting the reservoirs, and broom-handle-engaging bails pivotally connected to the reservoirs.
3. fountain for brooms comprising oped to the reservoirs and adapted to straddle 1o positely-disposed erforate reservoirs having opposite portions of a broom-handle.
